I bought some Minox binocs for the ATV. Havent had them very long. When I went to use them this morning, the left side was unusable. Something is loose on that side. Ya get what ya pay for...proven once again. Ill have to call Minox next week and see what to do. If they wont replace them, Ill sledgehammer them and send the remains to Minox.

So...I will want some 10x42 binocs for the ATV. They need to be tough and reasonably priced. I dont need the best, but I do want them to be decent. And tough. Did I mention tough? They need to be tough. I dont think Nikons are tough enough, so Ill avoid them. How about Bushnell?

Whaddayathink?

The Nikons are really dang good.

I have these I'm using now, built like a tank, may sell to fund rangefinding bino's, if yo interested.

I have some Vortex Diamondback 10x42 I've been thinking about selling. Probably a step below the Talons listed above in performance and price, but I've been very impressed with them and I do know my way around high-end optics a bit. Like new - hardly used at all outside of playing around on my back porch looking at birds and such in the trees out back.

As far as Minox goes, they won't tell you anything except to send them in and Blaser USA will send them to Germany for service. In 3-4 months, you may get a repaired product back, or it may still have the same issue. My biggest knock on Minox is the lack of good customer service. Second biggest knock is QC too poor to make the customer service a smaller issue.

Im still in Ireland, so Ill call Minox next week. I bought the binocs to have some sturdy and not expensive binocs, but it seems I missed my target. These things ride on my ATV, so it shouldnt be too hard on them. They didnt last long though.

I've got some German-made Minox 8x42's, and they have been most excellent. Stood up to a lot of abuse over the years, no issues. Lots of riding around in a UTV. With that being said, I have heard mixed reviews about how long it takes them to fix something if it goes overseas. Could be quite some time.

Minox should take care of it. Their service is typically pretty good. The lower end stuff isnt that great but they do make some great stuff too but thats with most brands these days.

Im back from Ireland, and I called Minox. They were very nice, and said theyd email me with the shipping address. Turnaround time was said to be 6 to 8 weeks. The binocs need to go to Germany. Well see how this goes.

I've sent in two scopes and in both cases, got a replacement sent back within 3-4 weeks. I like the optics, just don't understand how they can stop working correctly as fast as some do. I have, currently, 8 of their scopes.

I ought to be getting them back pretty soon. I was going to buy some more binocs and give these away, but decided to just see if the repair is good before I spend more money.

All these binocs did was ride around on my ATV for maybe 6 months. Its bothersome that they broke because of that. When I get them back, they go back on the ATV. Well see if they survive. If not, Ill be sure to tell you guys.

They should have emailed you a shipping label.

I shipped it to their suggested address. They say they received it and that it was sent to Germany.

This thread started in early June. If you had bought Vortex or some other company with good warranty service, you'd have had binos back a long time ago. The fact that you sent these off early June and are still waiting to hear that they're headed back your way is a little crazy.

Did you get them back? That's not too bad. Or were you just marking the timeline for our info?

Sorry - my last post came across really bad - didn't mean it that way, and thanks for not taking it like it reads...

I dont have them back yet, so Im marking time. I thought you guys might like to hear the real data on what happens and how long it takes.

I didnt take any offense at your post, so dont worry about that. I could have bought better binocs. I hunt with Leica 10x40s, but wanted some good inexpensive binocs for the atv. I wanted them for random glassing when Im out and about on the ATV. They do bounce around a bit on the ATV, so a little punishment will have to be tolerated. The Minox failed rather quickly, whereas I was hoping for them to never fail.

So Ill get them back sooner or later, strap them back on the Honda, and see what happens. If they croak again, I suppose Ill have to upgrade.

Another month has gone by, and I still don’t have any binocs (new or repaired) from Minox. I’m thinking that just maybe I won’t ever buy Minox optical gear again.

They don’t call, they don’t write, they don’t send flowers.

That sucks. Not surprised unfortunately. It's what they do.

Personally, I'd never buy a Minox product. At least not as long as I live in the US.

I have a 15 year old Pair of minox 8.5 X42 that went back to Germany last summer...seems like it took a month or so to get them back but they were like new ones when they did....and it didn't cost me a dime.

Well, I’m 2 months in so far. It isn’t even hunting season, so I’d think that their work load shouldn’t be too high. Oh well, it isn’t like I have to have them.

Just got a new pair of binocs from Minox. I sent the dead ones off the first of June and got new ones today. I think that’s just shy of 3 1/2 months. I sent a dead 40 year old scope off to Leupold a while back and got a new scope in a few weeks. Quite a difference, but it is a long way to Germany I suppose.

Let’s see how the new binocs hold up on my ATV, bouncing around.
