Just a note or two on the Wyoming draw coming up. Everything in Wyoming is a draw so get some PP to apply for good areas. We do have some winter issues popping up , check with Biologists in your areas for winter kill issues. Seems to be lots of interest in Wyoming, and other states , pronghorn right now. All of our tags are a draw until the leftover list comes out in July after the second draw. PP are needed for a good area with decent access. I would start building PP now, well in July if not applying in May. PP only can be bought starting in July. Better areas for access will take a few points to draw. Hard areas, with little access can be drawn with 0 - 1 PP. Wyoming does have 25% of licenses set aside for a random draw in each area, so some tags can be drawn with no PP. Doe tags are additional licenses and are reduced price, random draw for all. DIY hunting for pronghorn is great, no need for an outfitter or guide unless looking in a difficult access area. Private ranches outfit for pronghorn as well as licensed outfitters with leases. Public land hunting is great and B&C bucks can be found on DIY hunts. Applying now gets you at least a chance in the random side of the draw and gets you a PP if chosen on the app. Wyoming averages PP so applying with a high PP person gets you higher points in the draw, may change next year. Party apps are accepted also , up to 6 people and all draw or none on a party app. The Wyoming hunt planner is great for finding areas and comparing public land access and HMAs and walk in areas for access. https://wgfd.wyo.gov/Hunting/Hunt-PlannerDeer apps are also due in May, also some great hunting on public lands.

Good advice.
I am curious to hear about the winter kill as well
Hunted up there in 2015 and saw tons of antelope, but also saw hundreds of carcasses spread over the prairie too
I’ve got several PP’s and will buy another one in July, may go up there in 2020 to get a big goat for the wall.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I've got my elk tag for Wyoming. Be buying points this year for deer and pronghorn. Probably be 2021 before I go back up there for anything else. This year is full and next year I will have just got back from Christmas Island, so the budget may be slightly limited for 2020.

Wyoming has been good to me. Hope the trend continues.

Bump this up for the deadline on May 31. Deer and antelope apps due then. Things are looking great right now in most of the state. very green here in our part and horns and antlers should be good this year. Even doe tags are a fun hunt and a good way to scout out a future buck area. Good all.

Wytex, how is the public land for chasing goats up there? Plentiful?

Well just about half of our state is public lands. With a few PP you can have a great hunt on public lands. I guess most of you are not familiar with our state and it's hunting success on public lands. With the quota on NR tags and our small population, pressure is not bad in areas with good access. With say 2-5 PP you can draw a nice antelope tag and even 1 PP can get you a pretty good deer tag as well. Lots of folks try to line up private access but it's really not needed in the right areas.
Take a look at the Hunt Planner Map on the WG&F website. It will show the public lands, BLM, NF and state lands.
Doe tags are reduced price and can be a fun hunt and a good scouting trip for a later buck hunt. For antelope hunt areas 38,42,43,46, 50 and 52 have tags that can be drawn with 2-4 PP and are decent hunting. The special or higher price draw opens up some more areas with lower PP totals. Deer are also a good hunt on low PP areas and regions. You will work for them but good bucks are there. The better tags take a few PP to draw .
Wyoming also sets aside 25% of tags for a random draw in almost every area. The NR quota may be small for them but everyone not drawn in the PP part of the draw has a chance to get a tag.

Yep. I went ahead and put in for antelope (buck and does) in the Spring Creek area. If I do draw any of those tags, I will extend my elk trip and take a day or two before to stock the freezer. I already have 3 tags for this fall, but after having 4 last fall, 3 of which were antelope buck tags, I felt weird not having a speed goat tag in my pocket. 40% draw odds on the buck and 80% on the doe tags. I'll be happy if I only get one of the 3 I applied for.
If I really need any more tags I can draw any antlerless deer, elk, or antelope tag in Utah as well. A San Juan cow elk tag could be a good time.

Fitzwho we hunt in Spring Creek, 52-2, perhaps we'll run into to you this fall. We'll be over there next weekend for a branding on the ranch we hunt, also hunt the BLM. Lots of snow this year and good moisture for irrigation over there, horns should be nice. That is a wintering area if it snows in Oct they start moving in. Depending on your tag you could hunt after your elk hunt as well if needed.
Good luck!

Results anyone? We'll be in 52 for our antelope hunt. Drew an "extra" whitetail tag to go with a general buck license and will be general elk. Additional cow tags for the ranch we manage, we'll need them this year.

I got a mule deer tag and my dad got an antelope buck tag. We’ll be hunting private with friends out near Douglas.

Any idea how the Bighorn National Forest is for Elk? Hoping to do an elk cow hunt in the areas that does not require a guide next year for fun.

Big horns have good elk hunting, check the harvest stats for that cow tag. Depending on the timing of the season they may head down to private with snow.

Having a few makes a big difference in drawing an area with good access. You have at least a 12 hr drive from Ft Worth area up to Southern Wyo. Pronghorn can be hunted alone pretty easily but having friends to share camp and expenses works out well on an antelope hunt. You can camp for free and still be close to a town if wanted.

Buy a POINT! You don't have much longer to do so-- even 2-3 points can open up LOTS of opportunities for good areas. Talk some buddies into going as well. It is worth the trip to go at least once!

This !!! Pronghorn season is also great fishing for spawning brown trout, perhaps a little waterfowl or upland hunting as well, sage grouse end of Sept. Doe tags are a random draw and easy to fill. Lots of great areas to fill a couple of doe tags in a day or so.

The units I am looking at started this year in late September or the very beginning of October. I know it all depends on the weather, but at the very beginning of October are they still usually in the Forest or have they already moved down? I am also going to put in for the permission slip for the HMA in the lower area. Thanks for your advice

I would contact the biologist and talk about then elk movements in your area. Some do move down to private with snow and pressure.Early, they should be still up higher on NF. https://wgfd.wyo.gov/Law-Enforcement/Field-Personnel-Contact-Info/biologist-contact-infoMost will get back to you soon as they can depending on filed work. The GW is also a good contact:https://wgfd.wyo.gov/Law-Enforcement/Field-Personnel-Contact-Info/Warden-contact-info The email for most is the first name.last name@ wyo.gov
