I have finished training my first Jagd terrier - Bruce and He’s turned out to be one hell of a dog.

About 6 months ago Bruce’s owner contacted me and expressed interest in having his Jagd trained for upland flushing. I took him on and have been training Bruce for the past 4 months. With any flushing dog I prefer to teach a force retrieve. It allows me to have more control; I can turn them, stop them on a whistle, send them to flush and retrieve on command. I had some reservations about force retrieving a terrier. Terriers can be a little nasty and the thought of pinching his ear had me a little worried. After about a week of obedience, leash and ecollar work; I got Bruce up on the table and to my surprise he took well to it.

Bruce has been in training for 4 months now. He has been my go-to flushing dog for the past couple months- above several cockers and other flushing dogs. He’’s a reliable retrieve on land, in water and I guarantee you never loose a cripple down a fox hole. I have been teaching had signals and working on blind retrieves 60 yards and occasionally 100+ yards. I can’t speak for all Jagds, but Bruce is a good one.

I’ve been posting videos of ‘Bruce’ over past couple months to my Kennels Facebook page.
