Plans went to poop yesterday, so I decided to cook out. Went online to Walmart's grocery pick-up site, ordered a Choice, Angus, rib eye, fajita veggies, dips and chips (for cookout tomorrow) in order to reach their $30 minimum order (which I DONT LIKE) . anyway, got email my order was ready and noticed the steak was substituted, hummmmm. I went to pick up my order and yes the steak was substituted with their "select" grade I could have turned it down, gone inside and get something else, not the point, so, I took the order . Cooked the steaks, they were "meh" I get the normal "how was your experience" email. I ragged the substitute. Few minutes later, I get another email from Walmart, stating they have refunded the cost of the steaks Made me happy they stepped up. I know they had to, there is way too much competition not to. I did tell them substitutions and out of stocks will cost them all their business. I'm done with pick up orders, will go inside and pick my own. I threw the dice and lost, but got my $$ back

I enjoy shopping. I'm not letting anyone pick out steaks.

Can't beat Walmart's customer service (when you actually get to the front of the line). I would never trust anyone to pick out my food, especially any meat. You still have to drive there to pick it up...might as well just go in yourself.

I will always pick out my own steaks.
On another note.
I stopped shopping at Walmart years ago. My life is much better for it. Kroger and HEB have much better groceries and specials.

I like the order and pickup but when it comes to meat I just can't do it. Your lesson confirmed my suspicion Buzz....

Just tell them not to substitute the items you do not want substituted.

Zero problems shopping at Walmart (I do NOT buy steaks or roasts there). I've cross-shopped all the items I buy there and even with specials mixed in there is still significant savings. That said, I'm sure there are some locations that are worse than others.

My wife was on meets judging in high school and took several food related classes in college. I still don't trust her to pick out meat lol.
