To each his own. I've never hunted with hounds, but I might someday. Man's been hunting that way pretty much since he domesticated the dog.

I’d like to hunt hogs with dogs at least once....

I tend to agree when it comes to treeing a bear or mountain lion however you nothing like the sound of baying hounds moving a snowshoe or cotton tail into shooting position. Was a passion of mine as a young man

I love hunting with hounds as that is the way it has been done for over hundreds of years. If you have not hunted with hounds, I suggest that you give it a try as I feel that it is much more sporting than sitting over a barrel of donuts.

LOL, fair chase has nothing to do with being fair to the prey.

Treeing with hounds gives the hunter the opportunity to identify whether or not it is an animal they wish to take instead of sending a bullet downrange at a sow or female lion from several hundred yards away.
Lots of sows and female lions are treed without injury only to be let go on their way after determining they are females.

I once hunted deer with dogs in East Texas when it was still legal. That was an eye opening experience. Not many policed their hounds during those days. Running deer with dogs is a "whole nother thang" as they say.

do they have the same problem with taste quality like hogs do ? (where younger sows are better tasting than xxx yr old boar )

I knew a bear hunter that swore by it. He was going to bring me some but cancer took him fast.

You should hunt them in coyote fur and a spear.

I feel as you do. Feel the same way about hunting them over a bait barrel. I do recognize there’s some places where those are the only ways to hunt them with any real chance of success, it’s just not for me.
