I have been fighting my Labs ears getting infected and him constantly shaking his head. We clean them out, give him the prescribed medicine, either topical or oral, and nothing seems to help. Only thing that helps is keeping him indoors. Aside from a daily dose of Zyrtec or Benadryl, what else can I do to keep this from occurring? None of the doctor prescribed meds have really helped.

This worked for me. It's an antifungal.

I have heard, not experienced, that continuous ear infections can be food allergy related. My look into it from that direction.

What food switch did you do?
If you feed a chicken/corn based food try going to Beef/rice or salmon/rice

Last year my senior vizsla had a ear infection, that we fought for 5 months. Finally had to take her to a dermatologist, to clear it up. She had myringotomy surgery on the ear, and meds for 6 weeks. Other than having to put a weekly ear cleaner in her ear, and Clartin during allergy season, she's been good. Rotten dog has a $2700 ear.

Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

Recurring ear problems almost always have an allergy at the root. Might be worth a trip to dermatologist. Might be able to get it knocked out can repeat treatments.

Apoquel.
It's expensive - but it works well.
We switched to a food called DermDefense from Hill's. Its prescription and its expensive (wife gets it at cost - not sure of regular price). However - both of our labs allergy symptoms have drastically been reduced. They're currently on zero meds and their paws, ears, and skin look better than when they were on meds. I was extremely skeptical when the rep mentioned it to my wife - but I'm sold after two months of them eating it.

My Lab use to get Ear Yeast infections, tried everything from home remedies to prescription meds. Switched to a natural grain free salmon diet. Took about three month have not had a problem. Stay away from chicken and Grain like corn.

I had a chocolate that had yeast infections constantly. Cleaned and cleaned and gave prescribed meds and nothing worked long. Vet was/is a personal friend, she recommended changing her diet to all vegan, Dick Van Patton's. Worked like a charm. Never had another issue. Wish she was still around.

Recurring ear problems almost always have an allergy at the root. My Black Lab had ear problems most of his life, unfortunately it wasn't until the latter part did a new vet make the allergy connection. I don't recall what the medicine was, but after we started the regimine, ear problems went away.
