It all seems to depend on the Gobbler and his mood, There was gobbler a few years ago that only responded to very high pitched calls on Sunday afternoon that a coyote scared off when he was about 80 yards out. Went back that Friday afternoon, Setup at the same place and killed him within 5 minutes of starting calling. At the shot another gobbler shock gobbled back toward the truck so I repositioned and set the dead bird in the shade. This one wanted deep raspy or at least that is what he responded to and had him in about 10 minuted. Both mature gobblers killed between 2:30 and 3:30 in the afternoon.
Try different sounds and use the one the gobbler responds to.

Same thing can be said for how much you call and how aggressive you get. I have killed birds that wouldn't budge unless I got super aggressive with them. Then I have killed others that would not respond to anythign except nice soft subtle calling. Figuring out what the bird is most interested in is the ticket. Some birds will gobble to a super raspy call but will do nothing for a crisp clear call. One bird may not gobble to a glass pot but may gobble to an aluminum or slate pot. The best answer is.....it all depends.

It is best if you sound like turkey the gobbler knows and has a social tie to.. Kinda like you'd recognize a familiar voice in a crowd whereas strange voices are lost in the background and don't even register.

Don't forget using multiple calls at the same time on birds. A mouth call with some type of pot and/or box call to sound like multiple hens.
Listen to the tom. Most times, he will tell you what he wants.
Being where he wants to be increases your chances dramatically.

Turkeys are fickle and like the others said, it just depends on what the ol tom is looking for

I had one of the best late season hunts I've ever experienced this last season. Seems like every gobbler I heard responded. I could have easily harvested a dozen gobblers over a 2 day period. All came in alone, looking for one last love affair.
