I like cigars

I like whiskey

I have no idea which cigars are good or not so good.

Give me a couple suggestions. We have a pretty good cigar shop here and in the past I've just had them pick me out a couple.

^^^^^^ I really like a Partagas Black Label every now and then. Just about any Punch cigar is pretty good as well. As for the really expensive brands I can't help you there. I'm just too cheap to burn up that kind of money on cigars.

One thing to be careful of when you go into your local shop is don't let them take advantage of you and pressure you into buying stuff you're not interested in or go beyond your budget. Hopefully your shop doesn't have those kind of employees, but I've been to some that do.

I'd advise against dumping a bunch of money on high-dollar cigars, lighters, and humidors when you're so new to the hobby. A bigger price tag absolutely does not mean its a better cigar for you.

If you're buying liquor and have a Specs nearby, they have great pricing in their humidor.

Most cigars are going to be cheaper online. A few good websites are:

www.smallbatchcigar.com - use code rcigars for 10% discount

www.cigarsinternational.com

www.cigarbid.com

A more complete list of discounts can be found [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/cigars/wiki/deals)

A few $5-$8 recommendations. This is by no means a complete list, and is insulting to buckets of other fantastic cigars.

1. AJ Fernandez New World Reserve
2. Flor de Las Antillas
3. CAO Italia/Brazilia
4. My Father Le Bijou
5. Drew Estate No 9, T52, and Undercrown
6. Padron X000 (each vitola is a diff X #)

I've always been perfectly happy with whatever cheap cutter I have lying around. Remember you're just trying to get a clean cut of the slightest bit of cap so you can get a good draw, like http://www.tobacconistuniversity.org/images/cut-graphic-wm.png . Don't chop off a giant chunk of your cigar like in the movies. It will just unravel. You can also snag a cheap [punch](http://www.cigarsinternational.com/cutters/37141/raging-bull-punch-cutter/) (or 5) along with a future online order.

Cool thread, glad I happened to open it.

Here's my 2cents contribution. When I played golf a lot I smoked cigars on the course. I made my own punch out of an empty shell case and left it in my golf cart so it would always be handy. Don't remember for sure, but I think I used something like a .357 mag and sharpened the edge on a belt sander. Worked great, cost next to nothing, and made a cool looking accessory.

And now I want a cigar. No real cigar shops in my little town, but we do have a smoke shop that I've never been in. May just check it out after work.

Hit a different cigar shop this afternoon and picked up a new v cutter. Three Arturo Fuente venejo cigara and an Alec Bradley lost art.

The Alec bradly is a pretty good smoke.

Bringing this back to the top.

I bought a couple of these and I'm really liking it.

I'll try something different next time.

What should I try next?

Crux Epicure, if you can find it. They just came out with an Epicure Maduro. I bought 3 yesterday.

For special occasions - Davidoff Winston Churchill The Late Hour. Awesome smoke.

Anyone been to the Cigars Int'l store that I suppose opened by now in The Colony? Generally around the Hard 8 rest.

Yes, its decent sized location, with a decent bar selection. But not enough seating really in my opinion. Mostly Tables chairs. I personally dont want to sit in a bar style seat for the time it takes to have a nice smoke. They are also supposed to be opening one in the cabelas shopping center in fort worth soon as well. That one will get expensive fast for some people.
