BE CAREFUL!!!! The snake are moving. I have seen several snakes over the past 4-5 days. My dachshund was bit by a rattle snake that made its way into the barn while the roll up door was open. Got her above the eye and went through her ear and got her on the side of her face. It is amazing how intense it got after she was bit. The snake gave no warning what so ever till after he had struck. He are some picture of her after the bite. Bite occurred at 9pm Friday night and we had her at the vet by 930pm. Took her back the next morning and she stayed overnight with a IV till 10am Sunday. Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. She is a trooper.
Those dogs truly are scared of nothing. I’m surprised the dog didn’t kill it. Glad the pup is doing ok, it may have saved you or a family member from being bit.
we have had a bunch of rain in Georgetown over the last 2 months and my pond behind my house all of a sudden has snakes swimming everywhere - I have dispatched a number of them -
then one got through our Doggie door on the screened porch - our dog chased it into our house - fortunately my wife saw where the snake went inside the house.
so I got my large broom and was able to drag it out to the screened porch and then picked it up with BarBQ tongs and tossed him outside -
if I had not caught him I would have been paying for a hotel room for as many nights as it took to capture him and get him out of our house - wife would not have stepped foot in our house until I proved to her the snake was out
I have a dachshund too. He is fearless, I won't take him to the ranch this time of year. I am worried if he ever got on a snake, I would never get him off of it.
I killed two copperheads and one huge rat snake that was in the chicken coop eating eggs and saw two other harmless snakes in the yard all last week. We have a little dog too and don't want her bit so most snakes I see get the shovel treatment.
I kill any and all venomous snakes near the house or our cabins. I'm not taking a chance just so some reptile can live another day. That being said, all other snakes get a pass from me.
I've killed one rattler and one copperhead so far and my 12 month old heeler took a bite on the hind leg. She's had the vaccine but she got a little wormy that night and was lethargic so I gave her a benadryl and she was fine the next morning. Benadryl is big medicine on a snake bite
