I had game camera pics of a group of hogs coming in between 7 and 8 in the evening. I got in the blind with plenty of time to spare. Sure enough they showed up. I picked the largest hog in the group. It was quartering towards me. It was nervous and acted like it didn’t want to stay. I didn’t give it a chance to leave. I took the shot with my Savage Stealth 6.5 Creedmoor with Winchester 125gr Deer Season XP. The sow raised up on her hind legs when I hit her and than ran off. She ran about 20 yards dragging her guts! This is how I found her. Crazy tuff hog.
If you shoot an animal like a hog and don't cripple it, chances are it is going to try to run away, be it with guts hanging out, piglets, a chunk of lung, or whatever. I don't think they know to do anything else except to try to get away from what is hurting them.
