I would like to take two or three more Water Buffalo from my ranch in Hondo. There are two big mature bulls that are great trophies and one huge old bull that has a messed up horn on one side. The one with the messy horn stands a foot taller than all the others and is wider and longer. One of the biggest Water Buffalo I've ever had! We will hunt the brush spot and stalk. What is the smallest caliber that you would trust to keep them from stomping you into a mudhole?

The bullet construction and the shot placement are more important than the actual caliber. Hunting is one thing, stopping them is another. I use a 450NE to "stop" animals when rarely needed and sometimes it doesn't work like you'd think. As the PH or "guide" I only shoot if we are "charged" and that would be at close range measured in feet, and a shot to the brain.
