Anyone had this done ? And how was the outcome? https://www.verywellhealth.com/partial-knee-replacement-2548659Back in 2016 had some Docs tell me that both knees need to be replaced at some point due to osteoarthritis Tried Shots / had gel injected / all temporary fix's Sent me to a pain management doc - did that tell I got tired of the drugs and just quit taking them Docs told me at some point after I got tired of pain I would be back for replacement surgery 5/2/19 well I decided that I was done with the pain and went to see a new Doc & figured I would have at least one knee fixed. he looked at Xrays and said he could fix both knees with just a partial knee replacement surgery you keep your original knees and they just fix the one side that's bad basically you keep over 95% of your OEM knee Sounded like a good plan to me any thoughts from the gallery will be appericated Thanks Hetman(AKA Steve)

had my right one done in 2011, due to work comp I had to go thru 2 arthroscopic attempts to fix it. took about a yr. to get full use back but could walk without the cane after about a month. DO THE PT LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT, don't and you will regret it for a long long time. also be prepared for the front of your leg to be numb, they have to separate your lower leg to insert the metal parts. this is what it will look like on xray.

Have your tried stem cell?
Issue is metal and any infection in your body, mouth etc and bacteria clings to it and you have a problem.
My mom has both full’s and loves them, but I’m about to do stem cell

Dang bet life is going to suk for awhile . they are going to do both knee's at same time it will be worth it. I completely tore the meniscus on the inside of mine and with the osteoarthritis had no choice. totally worth the 2-3 months that sucked. they will probably have you up and moving around your room with a walker within a few hrs of waking up from the surgery, movement is key to faster recovery, just don't try to over do it.

So how long does the partial knee replacement last? My ortho doc told me I was too young for it. Have the same meniscus tear and OA, with cartilage wear.

The wife had a full knee replacement about a year ago. Pretty rough for about 6 months. A year later she tells everyone that will listen not to put it off. She regrets waiting so long. And, after hanfing out in the rehab waiting room I learned no two have the same experience. Same goes for someone w having two knees replaced. Each event recovers at different places with different issues.

Thanks everyone for info and best wishes. May22 is coming up like a runaway train . I am not happy about any of it , but I am also not happy hobbling around and not being able to do what I want when I want. To be very truthful it scares the chit out of me thinking about it. I also think its not fair to my other half as we both approach retirement to not be able to enjoy life together instead of sitting around whining about my knees hurting & not feeling like doing any thing . All I can ask is to wish me luck. As I will have a great amount of time to kill for at least a couple of months I will update when I can .
Thanks Steve(aka Hetman)

So how long does the partial knee replacement last? My ortho doc told me I was too young for it. Have the same meniscus tear and OA, with cartilage wear. For 80–90% of people who have total knee replacement, the new joint should last about 20 years, and it may well last longer. If you've had a partial knee replacement, you're more likely to need a repeat operation – about 1 person in 10 needs further surgery after 10 years. People who have a partial knee replacement recover faster than those who have a total knee replacement. Many people are able to walk without a cane or walker within 3 to 4 weeks after surgery. You will need physical therapy for 4 to 6 months. Younger patients with arthritic knees are the best candidates for a partial knee replacement,” , “We generally use a partial knee replacement to preserve knee function for patients between the ages of 30 and 60. Then we can convert to a total knee replacement.

A couple of years back, I was talking to a tennis coach from a nearby school and he had a full knee replacement in both knees. Said he was back to teaching tennis and playing tennis. Of course I’m sure he left out any negatives. He wasn’t limping at all though.

Steve, my mom had full double replacements done last July so I have some experience. She is a tough little Czech woman but it was hard. She fought through the first 2 weeks and it was hard no lie. She saw folks in her class that had one and they were on a treadmill and she was still in bed hurting. It sucked. Once it starts improving it just keeps getting better and better but it takes time. She knew she had to do both or she wouldn't have done the other. She is glad she did it today and the scares are barely noticeable.
PM me If you would like

Wife had a partial done. She had several injections, and previous scopes, 6, on the knee. Life of gymnastics, and sports tore it up. About 2 years ago she had enough and got it done. We just got back from hiking in Sedona for a week. Zero pain. She does Yoga 4 times a week too.

So how long does the partial knee replacement last? My ortho doc told me I was too young for it. Have the same meniscus tear and OA, with cartilage wear. I was told mine would be good for about 20 yrs. or longer than I expect to be alive. my ortho told me the same thing, pretty much had to replace mine though due to osteoarthritis and the meniscus being gone, I was bone on bone. can't remember the name of the joint they put in me but it is supposed to be the latest greatest, has some sort of super silicone between the 2 pcs of metal so it wears a lot slower than others. so I was told anyway.

Lots of technological improvements over the past few years. One of the key components of a successful knee replacement is the alignment of the upper and lower leg bones. Once upon a time, that process was more art than science, and the really good orthos knew how to get that alignment right just by using feel. Today, they have a disk that is basically a wireless pressure plate they can insert into the knee and do that alignment based on actual readings on a screen. Once everything is properly aligned, the plate comes out and the silicone implant goes in. It takes a lot of the "art" out and replaces it with science. I highly recommend you use this method.

BoBo How did the stem cell go? My wife is looking at doing it for her knee. Did you get cord blood or use your own stem cells?

Following, Seeing and orthopedist is on my short list to see why my knee always hurts. I haven't been able to take my anti inflammatory (Meloxicam) for a month and EVERYTHING hurts. had meniscus scoped years ago, I need an MRI to see whats up , probably scar tissue and arthritis. Hope everything went good Steve. I LOVE Baylor Scott White , Frisco. I think I know the entire staff by now

It has been 9 days since procedure was done. And yes it hurts like ------- ( fill in blank) Surgery was a technical success. Hospital rehab at hospital pushed too hard on day after surgery . Went home and really couldn't get out of a f150 - friend pretty much had to put a strap across chest and lift and slid me out of truck.. That night Hydromorphone( Dilaudid ) would not cut the pain from PR. Next day Doc was pissed got me on steroids & alternative pain meds. Since then I have been making small but steady improvement : getting legs to straighten to 0 degrees and bend to 120 degrees is considered to ne a fully functional knee. I am off walker ( except first thing in morning or a late night pee break) . Have a home rehab lady work with me 3 times a week. will switch over to out patient rehab when I can drive. They have stripped all wrappings off knees , I have a line of staples holding everything together.
And you will not believe the bruising!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If purple is the color of royalty I must be a king 3 times over from above knee to bottom of feet. Some days are better & for a couple of days anything below chin hurt.
Working on PR and my goal is the upcoming hunting season.
All I can say the more you put it off the worst it will hurt- out of both legs right is my worst and also was the beginning of my knee problem. I was compensating for my right knee so long that I am having to retrain the muscles in that leg to hold it straight and use the correct muscles in the correct sequence.
And pain pill make you stupid especially the dilaudid. Surprised I have not woken up with a melted credit card and ordered enough guns and ammo for a 3rd world country.
All I know is it is getting better just not very fast
thanks for asking Steve(aka hetman)

this was a few days after surgery and is now on both legs in various shade from top to bottom. I told my PT tech at least it didn't go North up the leg. She said you got lucky a lot of people bruise up in the north Area.

Following, interested in stem cell too. Doc says both need replaced but wants to wait a year until I am 65. Taking steroid shots every 4 - 5 months to ease the swelling and pain, helps a lot for now.
