Afternoon guys, Ive got a pup im trying to train for retrieving dove and ducks. I've never done this before and am only going by what Ive read. If anyone around the grayson, cooke , denton county area has any insight, tips or guidance or even has a little spare time, i'd appreciate it tremendously. I feel this dog has potential its just that i really don't know what i need to do. Zeke is a Lab / German short hair cross that's around 9 months old. Loves water, retrieves without hesitation, returning dummy is another story. If you want to hear more, feel free to pm or call me at 940-293-7102. My name is Clay.

get a training program, there are multiple good ones, I am using dokkens "retriever training" . It starts you out from choosing a pup and takes you all the way through step by step.

Did your pup come from "Erichugh22". I have a female from that litter. She acts the same way and is currently 60lbs of joy! Once you work the excitement out of her, she does great.

For your situation and goals I think joining Freddy King's "The Retriever Trainer" for $60 would help you tremendously.
Over 1000 videos and a FB group to help answer any questions.
Look up the "schematic" it lays out the progression you should follow.
Follow a proven progression of training and stick to it!

yes. i got one of the males. he's a great dog, lil high strung but i think that will go away with age. being my first dog i dont want to mess him up or have him go left field on me. and yes, he's probably around the 60 pound range. solid as can be
