headed into 6 months of no dipping. Harder than any drug Ive used to quit. Still at this amount of time I will get a hard craving out of the blue. If any substance should ever be banned it is tobacco. I probably started at 7 or 8 and dipped 2-3 cans a day. so about 47 years or so of dipping Quit cold turkey. My sleep has improved slowly. I always wondered why I couldn't sleep and its because my cravings would limit my sleep.

Not here to preach but if I can quit so can anyone.

I haven't quit but I've cut back significantly; I usually have one dip a day during the work week and a can will usually cover saturday and sunday

I gave up that crap up years ago. Hang in there it gets easier and at some point it will seem repulsive.

I quit a year ago. it was hard to quit, but not the nicotine, it was the habit of dipping and oral fixation.
The other day I got a craving though, I just wanted the taste of it, nothing else

I quit about 15 years ago. Still crave.
I wish they would come out with a decent alternative for my “oral fixation “.

I quit in December. Haven't had a dip since but still want one often. I chew a piece of nicotine gum to keep me from buying a can. Usually one piece of gum and the craving is gone and I can move on for a couple weeks. Sometimes I think, "I'll just have one dip and that's it." I know that would be a slippery slope so I avoid it.

It’s not that hard to quit. I started dipping to quit smoking, and then started smoking to quit dipping. This cycle kept going for 20 years. I just smoked and dipped until 2012, I finally accepted how white trashy both habits are. I’m a changed man. I did knock a drunks front teeth out at a gas station last year at 3:30 in the morning when I was fueling up to make sales calls in Oklahoma. Damn Odessa upbringing. If I had still been dipping or smoking, his comments may not have bothered me that much. I still miss lighting up a Marlboro and watching the sun come up. That’s the only time I still crave a cigarette or dip is early in the morning. I even quit drinking coffee. It’s not the same.

Congratulations on doing something that is extremely difficult!
You should be proud of yourself as this is a very positive achievement
for you and for everyone you care about!

Cravings are liars! They want us to fail despite our health, our wealth
and the people that depend on us. Cravings fight for our spirit for no
benefit to us and in many ways for our destruction.

Nicotine is a liar! That itch in your lip is a liar! Cravings are liars!

You do not need them, they need you!! Let them die!

Good on you and congrats. I need to quit something fierce. I started dipping to quit smoking back in high school, mainly because I thought dipping was nasty. Quit smoking pretty easily, but this dipping aint no joke. I've light-heartedly attempted to quit a couple of times, but never followed through. The only time I don't have a dip of snuff in is if I'm eating or sleeping. Maybe it's about time to give it a go again before my boys get too big.

They only last about 30 seconds anymore..........you just got to power through it when first quitting.

I probably on get 2 cravings a day at the most anymore.

I used Chantix to stop smoking, won't it work for worm dirt addiction? Has anyone tried it?

I doubt it.

The nicotine delivery pathway with a dip is muchl more potent than smoking a cigarette. Most of the stop smoking stuff isn't strong enough for quitting snuff. A single dip is equivalent to smoking like 10-12 cigarettes or something like that.

You really just have to go cold turkey and power through it. Its easier for some than others. Don't make other habits to replace a habit. I went with peppermints - holding it like a dip for hours - and the sugar screwed up a couple of my teeth close to the gums. Just quit and don't look back. Cravings don't last long - just have to ride the wave and power through.

Huge thing is just don't tell anyone youre quitting. That's just more pressure. Quit on Friday and don't take your after supper dip. Just go to bed. That puts you 8-10 hours into not having a dip in your system. See if you quit on a long weekend then you got 3 days that you can go take a nap when those really bad cravings hit.

Don't eat sweets or drink. ----- while quitting. those 2 will make you fail in my opinion.

I quit about 4 or 5 years ago after a 25 year, can of skoal a day habit. It was the best decision I ever made for myself and my family. Yes, I still miss it on long road trips but it has definitely gotten easier. I was able to quit with help from killthecan.org...GREAT website and support that helped me stay quit the 1st year! If you want to quit and don't think you can do it, go to the website, sign up and just read for a bit...then post roll!
