So, we have been in out house for over 15 year. Have never really cared for our counter tops...(builder installed).

Both of use being teachers, no $$$ for granite/marble etc.

Three large areas we needs to do...almost

Decided to take on a crazy project. New epoxy countertops... This is the first one...

Will post more when we are completed. Anyone else tried this???

(You can see the old counter top in the back left

Watched a video of a company doing this. That is neat and you can be as creative as you want to be.

We have approximately 90 square feet of counter top (island, elevated bar between kitchen and living room and regular sink/stove prep area.

Our approximate cost for the whole epoxy project (tools, drop clothes, epoxy color pigments, paint, etc) was about $750.00.

Compare that to guesstimation from HGTV or $45-$200 per sq foot...our cost $750 - granite cost estimate - $4,050 - $18,000

Yeah...it was a little stressful...but if we go for the low end estimate...we saved over $3,000

Yeah...Youtube is where we got our initial ideas...but did it with a bit of our our style.

Ours is really a turquoise base layer, various layers of dusting with copper and bronze colors and then application of 91% isopropyl alcohol to get the turquoise to show through the top layer well. Great thing is there is absolutely NO uniformity. Looks totally random

Looks like copper sheeting that's just starting to grow its verdigris patina. Looks great! I love it when someone can save as much $$$ as you did. Way to go! (Now you have more $$ for hunting)

It looks great. I wish I had known it was an option for our bathrooms.

Thanks for the compliments all.

There is definitely a bit of a learning curve...but ended up working out ok.

As for durability and such...it should be about the same if not a bit tougher than the cheesy Formica that was there to begin with.

The Epoxy should hold up to about 120 Degrees. We have always been good about not sitting hot stuff directly on the counter...so we should be good.

If anyone has any questions...I'll be glad to give ya my perspecitve/experience we had during the project.

Ill have to look into that. We have the light wood grain formica in our kitchen. Im starting on doing the kitchen now, going to paint the wood cabinets, change all handware, add some drawers and do a backsplash. Have been considering the sticky stainless steel time for the backsplash. How does that copper colored plastic backsplash look in person installed? Ive seen it at the stores but wasn't sure how it would look installed. You countertops looks great.

That backsplash looks really nice. Got is at Home Depot and honestly we were wondering how it would look. Really easy to work with and Liquid Nails makes the install easy also. I'd stop in at HD or Lowes and check them out in person.

Id go with leds. Home Depot sells the kits, just do not know what look you are looking for. Some leds Are stark white while halogens are a lot warmer.

you can get different value of LED lights for brilliant white down to softer tones
