A month from now will be on the road to San Diego. Daughter is moving out there. Will be on I-20, I-10, I-8.

Anything that is a must see not far off the interstate? It is gonna be 2 long days so don't want to go too far out of our way. Will have my black lab with me also.

By attractions I also mean awesome gun shops/manufacturers, aftermarket Jeep parts manufacturers, hunting/fishing gear manufactureres, etc smile

White Sands National Monument. Miles and miles of white sand and according to Google map about 30 minutes to get there. But if you go to Alamogordo you drive right by the entrance. https://www.nps.gov/whsa/index.htm

He is right. Near IH40 there is the Painted Desert, Grand Canyon, and the Petrified Forest, and you can stop and stand on the corner in Winslow AZ.

if ya want, on the way back (when minus the trailer) hit 17 up to flagstaff and do 40 coming back. amarillo ya just catch 287 back down.

some cool stuff on 40 and flag this time of yr is really nice, smell of fresh pine and probably see some elk in the area.

got to get to pheonix for the aftermarket mfrs. but I think there are a few there,

one thing I would NOT do is go without a good lockbox for any pistols you may or may take along, once across the kalifornicate line a lot of, if not most, semi autos are banned outright. you can look online and get the list of banned to see if you can stay in compliance. just remember, ltc or no, kalifornicate is the land of illegals and commie fornicators and they do not like us, AT ALL.

Back in my road warrior days I liked to stop at the Indian reservation Trading Post north of Tuscon around the I-8 cutoff every time I could. Can't remember the exact nearby town reference, but north of the Movie Set called Old Tuscon turnoff that is just west of the IH and not really worth the effort to find it.
The Trading Post is very near the Prison Warning sign about Hitchhiikers and a miles long pecan orchard exit on the west wide of the IH, up high off off the freeway service road but within sight with it's own IH signage. Much Mo bettah locally made trade goods than the Plaza in Santa Fe.
+1 on coming back on I-40. with a cutoff from I-40 east of ABQ at the truck stop for a short run up to Santa Fe if you've never been there. FWIW the CHIP's IMO just LUV Texian's License Plates for a free bumper to bumper look/see. Forget Phoenix and the surrounding 'burbs in the Valley of the Sun...Frisco in the Desert would be a better description. If you overnite in Tuscon find a steakhouse called the Corral up north for a feel for the old days.

I'lI be doing this exact same drive in a couple weeks. Buddy's kid in the military flying overseas from LAX. They're driving out there for a little bonding time. He doesn't want to drive back alone. I understand. I'm flying out there to drive back with him.
