My daughter and I went on an Axis hunt this past season. She was shooting a .243 rifle with 100 grain Remington Core-lock bullets. She shot two Axis does in the neck at 40 yards and of course, both dropped on the spot. Then she shot a Big Axis buck a little farther back behind the front shoulder (no guts were hit and she just clipped both lungs.) The shot was about 80 yards and the buck ran about 15 yards then dropped.
I would say to shoot nothing less than a 100 grain bullet BUT hit the animal where your supposed to and your hunt will end happily!

Tom I'm going to take my Winchester 1885 in 6.5CM as my carry rifle.
I'll also bring my Tikka T3X in 22-250. I'm wanting to shoot something with the 70 grain Barnes TSX's that I picked up for this rifle. When are you leaving buddy?
