Was in Tyler this weekend and had forgotten that they put butter in their hot sauce. Was wondering if there is a reason for doing this and why have I only noticed or seen it in that area. My wife made me try it once before and to me it just masked the flavor of a good sauce.

It can be used to temper the heat of a hot sauce. Sometimes when I do wings the regular Franks is too hot for some folks so I thin it with butter

I have before but even Chuys there and taco ship in Bullard. Seems like everywhere there lol

As cheap as most of these places are in Tyler it’s probably cheaper to add butter to make it last longer. Can’t say I’ve ever noticed it but I will next time

I don’t want dumbed down salsa. As far as Texmex is concerned, east Texas is a different country. I’m amazed how bad the Texmex is there.

There are a few ok but definitely nothing great. I tend to go to the places that are authentic now.

Wait. What are we calling "hot sauce"? To me, hot sauce is something wings are tossed in. Tortilla chips are dipped in salsa. Hot sauce has butter, lots of it. Salsa should not.

Foods are regional, including the Mexican food in Mexico. But as people move from region to region, it will eventually become more of the same. Mexican food in Pecos, is not the same as Abilene. Even in some towns the regional influence will be "diluted" by the customers that come from other areas.
