"Senate Bill 317, by Senator Bryan Hughes, would allow a hog to be killed at any time, whether they are destroying property at the time they are killed or not, without a hunting license. The hope of this provision is to enable landowners to further protect their property from damage."
Seems like a silly waste of tax dollars and time. It is just $25 for a resident. Plus, if it is on my property it is destroying something, nature of the beast.

Is this a troll post? Pigs get and deserve no love. Anything that makes it easier for people to legally shoot them is a good thing.

There aren't that many people that hunt that do not hunt something beside hogs, so they buy a license regardless of this Bill.

There are things that folks do that they think is for the protection of their property, for which they get cited. When you say, "Plus, if it is on my property it is destroying something, nature of the beast" I take it to mean you would shoot them regardless of having a license or not. Does that apply to deer destroying your crops? Deer do a lot more financial damage than hogs. Nature of the beast, right???

The only accomplishment I see is the end to the question, "Do I need a license.to hunt hogs?". And pay-to-play operations can advertise "no license required" to their customers, in or out of state.

Landowners are exempt from having to have a hunting license to hunt hogs on their own property. Are they saying that invited guests and family members would also be exempt?

Already been a thread or two on this, here's the previous latest.... https://texashuntingforum.com/forum...4/no-license-for-hog-hunting#Post7489104Personally, I think you'd have to be pretty foolish to take the chance on hunting anything without a license, no matter the law. If it was as simple as "Don't need a license to shoot a hog", maybe, but it has qualifiers not to need one. It will most definitely get folks in trouble because someone "didn't understand".

I come down there every sporing for hog hunt and never shoot anything else so yes lots of folks go to Texas just to hunt hogs. It has always been legal to take depredating hogs, they are just making it legal on private land for anyone to take them with landowner permission. They are essentially clarifying law that makes feral hogs a depredate species in Texas on private land.
How would it be a chance when the law states no license required? It's not hard to differentiate between private and public land.
I have many e mails about this with TP&W heads in Law enforcement. It's not a chance if you're just hunting hogs and on private land with landowners permission.

Not a silly waste when it costs folks $ in citations for hunting a non-native, invasive species. The $ TPWD gets for licenses from people specifically targeting feral pigs is miniscule. If this encourages more folks to get out and chase this scourge, I'm all for it.

If this encourages more folks to get out and chase this scourge, I'm all for it. It certainly doesn't hurt. TPWD was citing folks for hunting an animal that they (TPWD and the State/people of the State) don't claim responsibility for...yet they regulate them. Feral Hogs are classified as Free Roaming Exotic Livestock. As such...they belong (ownership) to the Land Owner if/when 'control' is exercised over them (to include the animals simply being on land that is under control of the land owner/agent). So pretty much by default...if they are on property you own and control the hogs are YOURS (until they step over onto your neighbors property). So....at certain times...under certain conditions, TPWD could fine you for hunting animals that technically were YOURS to begin with. THAT is what needs to be straightened out. I mean...if they are YOUR exotic livestock...you should be able to to do with them as you please, (animal cruelty exempted).
