...…...TODAY WAS A BIT DIFFERENT.

The last several weekends have been a disaster in terms of winds and storms so I haven't been able to take the boat out. I needed to run some fuel system cleaner through the engine so I decided last night I would make a quick run out to the lake before noon today and get that taken care of before it got too crowded.

I got on the water about 10am and made a few runs up and down the bridge and then went to graph a off shore spot to see if any Sandbass had shown up out there yet. My graph lit up!!!! Everything on deck was rigged up for Bass, but due to the high school tournament going on out there today I decided to let them have the Bass and I would see if I could find something else.

So I started tearing my boat apart trying to find something to catch these fish with but nothing would work. Then I remembered at the last minute I threw a rod in the rod box that had a prototype lure I had been working on tied on it so I grabbed it out of the rod box. The lure is not really made for 22' of water but I figured what the heck I would try anyway...…..IT WORKED!!!! After 30 minutes of nothing it was now just about every cast for the next 90 minutes. Then it was over! The fish didn't quit biting, I just lost the only lure like that one that I had with me. Im just glad I threw it in the boat at the last second otherwise Im not sure I would have caught a darn thing!

Anyway I had the boat back on the trailer by 1pm and was gone.

And I am sure some wise guy will tell me there is more than a 25 fish limit there. Yes there are 35 total. 10 came from a creek I fish yesterday. I just threw them on ice knowing I was going to the lake today so I would only have to clean fish once.

Fresh sand bass is great! Frozen, not so good as they are very fishy.

Now, if someone can tell me how to prevent the fishy taste when they have been frozen, I would appreciate it.

I try to soak mine in salt water for a couple hrs before cooking works good.

There is no way to make any frozen fish taste as good as fresh fish no matter what you do.

I have tried the salt water method and even froze the fish in salt water. It is suppose to draw the blood from the meat and it does to a certain extent. However I am very sensitive when it comes to over salting of food and it leaves the fish too salty for my taste. I pretty much always squeeze lemon on all my fish regardless of what species it is. So that alone will drown out a lot of the fishy taste but I am not really that sensitive the "fishy" taste anyway.

I grew up eating wild everything. Fish, deer, pig, squirrel, rabbit, whatever, so gamey and fishy taste are just normal to me.
