Any thoughts on firing 2-3/4 12ga shells through a 3" 12ga barrel on a shotgun originally chambered for 2-3/4 only shells? I measured the receiver ejection port/opening both my 2-3/4" and 3" 12 gauge models (both the same make) and its identical. Could it be that the manufacturer made both receivers and the guts identical, with the barrel chamber length (and perhaps strength) being the only differences?
My shotguns are S&W 1000 autoloaders and 3000 pumps from the 1980s, however, I'd think this question would apply for nearly all older makes (Rem, Win., Sav, etc.) BTW. I've been shooting S&W shotguns for 30+ years. Fantastic shotguns. Thanks!
