I havenít made a pig knife in a while and rarely do I stray off custom orders and for sale knives, but I felt the need to do something different for a change. So, I made this pig knife, itís 1075,14Ē OAL 9Ē blade, brass guard, bone and tiger stripe maple for the handle. It had the most beautiful gold color when I took it out of tempering, so I left it on there. I havenít decided what to do with the sheath yet, Iíll get to it when I get time, Iím taking off a few days and then I have to catch up on custom orders. I still need to put several coats of Tru Oil on it, it's just buffed.

Did you clean up the bevels, add the false forge marks, and then temper the knife? I usually temper immediately after heat treat and then lose my straw color from cleaning up the knife.

After heat treat I clean it up real good with a scotch brite belt. I don't waste my time quenching in oil. I use brine so I don't have to spend a lot of time cleaning up a blade. Don't even get into warping or cracking a blade, 300 knives a year speak for themselves.

Very interesting. I'm glad I asked. Now I need to research brine......
