Looks like outfitters and guides may start operating on public land in Oklahoma. Since I often hunt public land in Oklahoma, I sure don't like this Bill if it passes. I know from experience when hunting guides are allowed to operate on public land or doing it unenforced illegally, they get real possessive of those areas to protect their livelihoods. Often it leads to vandalism and confrontations towards outsiders who try to hunt "their" public land.
SENATE FLOOR VERSION February 18, 2019 AS AMENDED SENATE BILL NO. 566 By: Murdock [ hunting - hunting guides - codification - effective date ] BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA: SECTION 1. NEW LAW A new section of law to be codified in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 5-214 of Title 29, unless there is created a duplication in numbering, reads as follows: Hunting guides shall be allowed to operate on lands managed or owned by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation where public hunting is allowed. SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2019. COMMITTEE REPORT BY: COMMITTEE ON AGRICULTURE AND WILDLIFE February 18, 2019 - DO PASS AS AMENDED

Yeah, the "guides" need to hunt private land and leave public land to the public.

I duck and deer hunt a lot on public in the sooner state. Let me tell you, you ain't never heard stories till you've been around an area full of big bucks on public in Oklahoma. The last thing they need is guides out there fighting for room.

I’m curious what the perception is in areas this is already taking place, like Colorado. Guides work national lands there, are there issues with those guides getting into it with hunters over spots? I assume not given their business is all word of mouth and being unprofessional can surely hurt their business. Selfishly though, it’s going to provide hunters experience into national lands that they’d normally avoid due to not being familiar or comfortable with, so I imagine it’s definitly going to up the activity into these areas which makes it less fun for those currently using them. But that’s always the trouble with this game we play. We need more hunters to keep the tradition alive, but just hope they all use “that other spot” instead of “my spot”. I’m no exception to this rule. I love talking to hunters, except when I’m walking to that spot I’ve been thinking about hunting all week long.

It has been some time since I did a pack in elk hunt in Colorado but it struck me that hunting with an outfitter was something for out of state types not locals. And there must be conflict because the outfitters are alloted a specific area and how happy could they be if you set up camp anywhere near them.
