How much of that 35k was speakers? Also please post pic.
Don’t let someone technology whip you. If so, the ceiling is endless. Stick with your budget. 20 grand is plenty if you do some of the work. I did mine before YouTube.
The technology will change in 2 years. My first.projector was a Mitsubishi and it was 5 grand. Mine now was1800 and much better. The screen is very important. So is the receiver, that’s the brain. You can get a 800 dollar one that will do everything you need it to do.
Speakers Are the most confusing. So many options. I like the in wall ones. Just cut drywall and set it in. Run wires to receiver.

Just plan it out. Configure it how you want.
What’s above the room your gonna use???
I'm a pretty cheap guy, I buy good quality stuff but, never the most expensive. I am willing to fork out for the projector, but don't need the top of the line sound system. I'm no professional when it comes to distinguishing the difference between a good, and a great system.
It's the upstairs living room, so it has the roof on top, and the garage on bottom.
Here's ours. Don't have a lot of details on equipment since it was there when we bought the house last year other than the 160" screen. Fantastic picture when we watch golf, football, and movies with the kiddos.

I'm looking into turning my upstairs living room into a true theater room. Soundproofing, theater seating, projector, surround sound, the works. Have any of you guys had this done? What was the cost? Thanks. Post pics if you have them.

Nice setup. How wide is that room? My dimensions are L 20 W 14, so I wonder if I would have a problem fitting 3 seat.

Doesn't make me a bit envious. Looks uncomfortable to me. You couldn't pay me $20,000 to watch TV in a leather chair the remainder of my life.
It's not supposed to make you or anyone else envious...... it's a thread for information. I'll be honest with you bill, you sound envious. I'm pretty sure if you had a theater room you would have been the first to post pics.
really depends on your budget. To do a dedicated home theater room can run as little as 8-9k for something decent to 20k for something nice and then the sky is the limit from there. Huge span depending on your expectations. Sounds like you're in the 15-20k range from your description. I've been distributing home theater equipment for many years and installed for a few of those.

Jesus, you're not lying. I was looking at projectors and I thought 5k was too much, then I saw one for 35k! What the hell?

Irony. Kid looking at a 10 inch screen.
Ain't that the truth. My daughter isn't much for watching her dad's Titans. Momma has her Cowboy brainwashed

With the kind of money you're going to spend on audio equipment you'll need a ventilated audio closet you'd be blown away at how much heat it creates. At that point you might as well use amplifiers and just go with whole home audio. It's nice to be able to have the same audio on the porch, kitchen and living room while entertaining. Sonance have been my go to for years, Focal and Definitive have some nice offerings as well. Marantz have been my favorite receivers and McIntosh would be my recommendation on amps. Not all audio will sound the same in a showroom as your home. Get a tech out and build what's going to work best for your room, pay for tuning, it's worth every penny. A poorly tuned $50k system can sound worse than a $2k DIY job.
I would estimate about $40k if you are going to have to have some construction work done and how many and what brand speakers and type of components you want.
I would not worry about double insulating any walls. Use Roxul batt insulation and you will be fine - and doors aren't necessary in my opinion either.
I would not do components - we have a 7.2 Marantz receiver running Martin Logan speakers with two subs and it is all I feel anyone would ever need. We use an Xbox and AppleTV and the Xbox and AppleTV are our gateway to watching everything we want because everything is App driven and wireless.
Also, I would not worry about trying to feed different channels for music to outside or other parts of the house - wireless speakers are now so ubiquitous and good that that's the best way to go on that.
Lastly, spend a little extra for 4k projector and whatever you do make sure you run two sets of HDMI cables to the projector in case one goes out somewhere down the road.
We have 4 raised theater seats that recline and a big party couch with two chaises and it's everyone's favorite room in the house when we gather. I've had six grown kids sleeping there all at once.
We really enjoy it.

Lastly, if you or anyone want any type of cool sports or movie memorabilia I have a hookup. One of my customers has amassed an amazing collection of signed movie posters and sports paraphernalia that he is liquidating. We have lots of signed memorabilia that really makes it special to us.

I would like to keep things under 30k. Im not looking to drop big money for sound equipment. Im willing to spend money on the sound proofing, and projector though.
