I’m going to give a shot anyway. I’ve wondered the potential of this rifle over the years and now I will find out. I’ll be the first to say that scopes don’t belong on levers. When I finish load development the scope may come back off. If not I will be putting some better lower rings on it. It’s way too hi for me as is.

Opinions on levers and scopes?

This is a 35 Remington from the 80s. I picked it up in rough shape years ago and have traded it back and forth with a friend over the years. It’s been traded for a little as a bud light, and as much as a truck. It has saw a couple of refinishes and lots of sand paper.

Well, it makes you old fashioned and tacticool at the same time!!! Yes, that set up will have you turkey necking on the stock to line up your eyes to the scope.

I have a 1-3x Weaver scope on my lever 44 Mag. But it was for night hunting pigs.

I personally do not like scopes on lever guns but you do what you do. I can surely understand wanting to do so for a good load development. My iron sight marksmanship was probably a little better with my younger eyes and daily practice busting birds squirrels etc. in the back yard at 8 years old than today.

I just remembered I had this little gem. I bought it for something else and didn’t like it. It fits perfect on here though. Cheek weld is good. Now I’m adding more junk to a rifle with perfect clean lines to start with. bang

It’s very nice and appears to be of high quality. I base that simply on the function of the snaps, the stitching, and smell of genuine leather.

I am suspecting your thoughts on the event are close to what mine have been every day on duty this year. I got back in the habit of running a mile every morning. "I hate to do this, but I'll feel better for it in the end."

I have one in .35 Rem that was born in 1961. It's my favorite lever gun.

I finally put glass on several of my lever guns, except for one 30.30, rimfires, and two in pistol calibers. .45 Colt and .357 Mag. Like Procraft05, if I deer hunt with it, it will have glass on it. Primarily because I'm about to turn 64.

My eyes are not what they once were and really haven't been for a few years. There is a 2-7X32 or a 1-4 on all my lever action guns but one. That one I just cannot make myself scope, Limited edition Cowboy action JM Marlin 1895 with an 18 inch barrel.

I put a scope on my Marlin 336 so I can hunt and make longer shots with a lever gun. On the other hand, my Winchester Model 94 will never see a scope atop it. IMO, any lever gun that top ejects, even if it's one of the later models that throws out the top at an angle, should never see a scope.

And putting a side-mounted scope on any lever gun is blasphemous.

I put 4 power scopes on my Marlin 336s. I sold them over the years and bought a used one a few years back. I put a 3-9 on the latest gun. I like it and boy does it help with old eyes and not much sunlight.

God bless John Wayne!

I have a Weaver K4 on mine that I bought in 1971. Try shooting in poor/very low light without one.......

Jgraider is correct, and it’s the same reason I put a fixed 4 on the Marlin. Sure made dim light shooting easier. Dad and my brother put scopes on their 336’s immediately, but not me. I was going to be an iron sights guy, and that was when I had young eyes. Wasn’t long before I got a scope for my 336. I still have that old El Paso Weaver 4 power, in a box in the shop. Call me if you need it.

For me it comes down to, "what am I going to use the tool for". The only lever actions I have at the moment are Rossi M92 in 357 and 45 Colt, so that pretty much takes care of the traditional scope lever action question. Neither are being used as hunting rifles, although, either could be in the proper environment.

The OP, WP, stated he was just outfitting it for some load development. Only time will tell if he likes it and leaves it rigged that way.

Next thing you know, it'll be wearing a sling!!!

I have scopes on my lever guns as well. They are accurate enough to justify it, as my eyes are not as young as they used to be... even 5 seconds ago. laugh

Yep, I added one to my Marlin a few years ago, simply because I was having trouble picking out the pins with my aging eyesight. To each his own...

I did the same thing with my 30-30. Put a M8 4x foxes power Leopold with the same stock pack.
