Will it really make a difference letting hunters kill hogs without a license? Every hunter I know that hunts hogs also hunts other animals, so a license is required. And I know plenty of hunters that have all the things they need to hunt hogs, weapons, property, lease, etc. and they could care less about hunting them.

The state will lose the revenue from the short term out of state licenses, but on the other hand I think they are "gambling" on an increase in out of state hunters to cover that with sales taxes collected from their expenditures. A long with the theory that most out of state hunters also hunt other species while they are here that do require the short term license. So it makes it easier for Texas hunters and out of state hunters, while the revenue loss should be about negative.

I guess this will also apply to people actually paying to hunt pigs? I also wonder how many of the "pay to play" operations are gonna' use this as an ad campaign? "Hunt hogs in Texas! No License Required!". Along the same lines as a couple earlier comments, will this make the hunt suddenly affordable? (or at least give the illusion of a bargain?). Might be a non-issue since a lot of those hunts also include other animals, so a license would still be purchased.

Do not shoot from within 100' of a public road. I have heard people say this, but never seen the actual statute for this. Do you have a link? Hunting How far from a public road does a hunter have to be before the hunter may shoot a firearm? There is no set distance from a public road, provided the hunter is on private property. However, Section 42.01(a), Penal Code, provides that a person commits an offense if the person intentionally or knowingly discharges a firearm on or across a public road. Would have bet my lunch money I had read the 100', in the annual for years. I just checked, and it says "It is unlawful to hunt on public roads or the right-of-way of public roads." Maybe the 100' was dropped? Some local govts have that in place, to basically eliminate hunting in close-in rural areas with small tracts, after the minimum acreage rules were overruled.

Thanks. I could not find it anywhere any time I have looked. We do a lot of shooting within 100' of the road and we aren't within any municipality. You spy hogs from the gate in an open field and sometimes the best place to shoot from is just inside the gate, LOL.
No shooting from the road, road ROW, or across roads, but inside the fence and you are GTG at least in most rural areas.
