So, I just watched a Youtube video that made me pause for a second. The video was a review of the Magpul Hunter Remington 700 stock. In it, the narrator mentions the two reasons for the replacement were feeding problems and the fact that the bolt knob rips into his trigger hand at the first knuckle of his index finger with each shot. The rifle is an ordinary garden variety 700 ADL in 7mm RM. Now I've known for years that its easier to make single stack rifle magazines feed well than multi stack mags, so that wasn't much of a surprise. What got my attention was the bolt knob collision issue. As it so happens, I've got a Remington 700 BDL in 7mm Ultra in a Bell and Carlson Medalist stock that does exactly the same thing to me. I tolerate the problem because the combination is very accurate and very predictable with a number of loads. The issue is bad enough that I wear gloves at the range to prevent the bolt from ripping my skin open. For whatever reason, it never occurred to me that the problem was caused by the shape of stock. Anyway, the fellow in the video solved the problem by switching to a stock with a more vertical pistol grip. Has anyone else had a similar issue? How did you solve the problem?

I only use vertical grip stocks.

Never had the problem with a 700. Did have a severe case of it with the dogleg bolt on the model 1817 Enfield. New bolt handle cured that problem.

No. That's a new one on me and I started shooting 700's in the 1960's. None of the ones I've used required close to enough force to operate to tear my hide. Well except when I got over ambitious with the powder charge and had to operate it with my foot...

I never wrap my hand around the grip. That hand causes manipulation and I let the rifle sit on its own. 2 fingers tough the face of the grip and 1 on the trigger, that’s it.

Anyway, McMillan had 20% off on the MC3 Tradition Deluxe which is a hunting stock with a tactical shape and a vertical grip. The stock is supposedly carbon fiber, but some of the online reviews suggest it to be fairly heavy. I guess we'll see what we see.
