I am about to close on my property on the east side of Breckenridge, and was wondering how the hunting is in that area. I know it’s a pretty broad question and I really won’t know until I get everything set up. I have a feeling I’m gonna be loaded down with hogs.

The hunting can be really good. Good genetics if trophy bucks are desired, if they can make it to maturity.
Lots of turkey and hogs. How much land and the type of terrain will be most important along with how many neighbors border you and how they hunt.

I know just north of Breckenridge, Crystal Falls has some good genetics and nice deer, have seen some semi-frequently while driving up to Murray to hunt from Breckenridge; always have to be careful driving that highway either early morning or at night. Stompy on here has a ranch near Breckenridge, hopefully he can opine in.

Congrats. How far east of Breckenridge? Start feeding protein & corn as soon as possible.

I'm SW of Breckenridge and it all depends on your neighbors. If you have good neighbors that feed and manage (and you do the same) you can see 130-150" bucks. Lots of hogs this year.

No doubt Congrats. Not sure east of Breckenrigde. Like DQ said, I am up by Murray and there some good deer around. 130-140 max on the small place I have and as always, depends on your neighbors. Enjoy your new place.

Congrats on the new property! I acquired my first piece of property last year - it's been life changing.

I had a lease for a year that was north of Cisco. Certainly lots of hogs. Genetics for deer were actually pretty good. Didn't see as many deer as in other areas of TX, but my fathers friend who leased it with us harvested one of the nicest bucks I've seen on a lease. The genetics are in the area. Really depends on the hunting pressure and your neighbors.

Hunting pressure and neighbors equal good or bad bucks in that area.

I am south east of Breckenridge.....39 years now. Before AR the hunting was pitiful. Since AR I see several every year in the 125-145 range. Where I am at now not so many hogs, they seem to come and go. I have owned other places near Huffstutle and southeast of Ivan. Lots of hogs near Huffstutle. Nice deer along the Clear Fork... racks and numbers. Bigger ranches there. Like others have said it depends on your neighbors and pressure. Good luck!

Hunted there many moons ago. If you put the time and energy into doing it right, there are good deer to be had.

I bought a grain drill many years ago from a farmer/rancher right in there somewhere. Enjoy your new ranch, if you need any advise on a dozer guy, contractors or anything else just shoot me a pm. Sorta have to be careful who you do business with out here, I guess that's everywhere though.

I recognize that place, it is about catty corner to that big caliche pit where they mine what they call limestone, but we call caliche. Years ago a friend had a dove lease down road 207.

Nice!! I looked at that property. I have an offer on one South of Breckenridge near Morton Valley. Let us know what you find.

I drive by that place fairly often. Looks like you have some fairly open areas. I am thinking you got a good place for coyote hunting, Plenty of them around. Many years ago I hunted doves about a mile or two south you. Got into a lot of birds that year. Get a good food plot going in that field and you can draw in the deer and doves. Get some native sunflowers going and you might have some good dove hunting.

We are just down the way on 207 at the first curve. Been here 2 years now, so not much history on hunting. 2 bucks, 1 doe and 6 pigs (big pig was #300) this past winter. Good numbers of turkey, coyote and hog, a few bobdat. Deer density appears good going by numbers on camera at the feeders. Watch for the 3 big ole white dogs that roam around, we think they are the sheep/goat man's due south of you, but no one seems to know for certain. As Stompy mentioned if you need anything holler. Shoot us a pm if you'll be down for turkey season.

Congratulations on your new place. Lots of liveoaks and brush. Room for big food plots too. Looks really nice.

Find a local farmer that has a teenager and tractor, a few dollars worth of work and you have some good food plats.

I hunt just a few miles south of you on a similar sized property. We have been experiencing some residual age structure issues left over from the drought. We haven't really had a true shooter on camera all year for the last 2 years but did pretty good in 2012-2016 with at least one deer of the same quality or better as compared to the ones in the add. We do have a lot of young bucks...hopefully, they will continue to mature. We do have some issues with mature deer that don't make AR. I killed a 13.25 wide 135 inch 12 point 3 years ago...so be careful.

There are some GIANTS in the area. There was a 200 inch killed on the banks of Lake Daniel five or so years ago. I had him on game camera once...man he was HUGE!

Good luck....look forward to seeing some pics as you work your place.

You are really close to turner seed. You should see if they would lease that big field from you for them to harvest the wheat/oats/triticale seed. Might have you a top notch food plot for free
