With age my eyesight is deteriorating and I need all the help I can get from a scope. I am wanting one that I can use on my .308 from 100 yards and 300-400 yards. Are there pros and cons of say a 3x18-50 or 3x24-50? Can you get a decent scope to work in such a wide range or is it a compromise? What are your suggestions for a bolt action .308? I looked at Leupold. https://www.leupold.com/scopes/compact-scopes/vx-6hd-3-18x50mm

Many good scopes with that type of range these days. That Leupold would be nice.

God bless John Wayne!

I have the 6HD in 3-18 and I would say there is no compromise in that scope. The fire dot is worth the extra money if you do any low light shooting. The rifles may all come and go but that scope is on my keeper list.

My usual disclaimer: I'm still relatively a newbie to longer range and reloading.
I think I'd go 3-18. Been using a 3-15 swfa and 5-25 xtr ii as the only comparable. So far, I have never shot past 600 just at a retail shooting range and I didn't exactly think the 15 wasn't "enough" magnification. And personally, I think there is a difference between 3x and 4x where 3x is much easier to open both eyes and scan the larger field view.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!
