I have a new hunter on my place for this season. He bought some corn for the feeder and some alfalfa slabs and pellets to spread on the ground
I have no experience with alfalfa, but the deer went after it right away.
What is your experience with it, if any?

I hunt out side Ozona and the deer love it. 4 bail may last a week.
Put a little corn on the top of the bails to get them used to it.

We only feed alfalfa around the first of the season, used to have a couple of trough feeders we filled, but now just drop a bale here and there on the ground.

I would think it all depends on location ... I have not had any luck with alfalfa the few times I have put it out around central Texas but my BIL only puts out alfalfa in the panhandle using taller pens with small cut outs on a couple sides for access. I would probably have to build taller pens on my place near Ozona to keep the horses and cows away from it.

This has me thinking. I believe I'll try it. But, I will have to put it on a feeder table to keep the hogs off of it.

The only location in the state I have seen alfalfa pellets used and work, was west of San Antonio toward Bracketville/Del Rio and then north into Trans Pecos area. Baled alfalfa is utilized better in other areas. Takes some time and right range conditions for alfalfa to be utilized. Lot more waste in bales vs pellets..but better usage with bales.

We had a ranch outside of Brownwood next to Camp Bowie and feed the pellets. 7 feed stations... got expensive quick
