As a developer, I can put on my ear buds and listen to music most of the day. I get in a zone and time flys by most of the time. Do you have quiet time at work or do you deal with people constantly?

It’s a mix for me depending on the task at hand.

Did backed when I still worked. Still stay in touch with some of them.

I work from home. Aside from a few calls everyday and the occasional meeting, no. When I worked in an office, I did. There were always people who were social butterflies and either didn’t have enough work or just liked to get up and gab. I hated it.

On the phone, face to face, and computer all day every day dealing with drivers, customers and vendors. THF is the open tab of comic relief.

This. It really depends. At the beginning of any project I deal with people, but most of the time I'm in my office making stuff on the computer without having to deal with anyone. I'm a mechanical designer so building stuff in a CAD software doesn't require others until its time for design reviews.

This made me retire at 65

face to face calls from 6:30am - 3:00pm. Phone calls till 5:00pm (cut off for next day orders). of the 40 customers I had, I enjoyed seeing about 10 of them. The rest were a MAJOR WHIP !!! ALL HIGH PRESSURE on me with TONS OF STRESS to perform.

Luckily, in my 46 year career, I was fortunate enough to have breaks . I was a District sales manager for about 5 years, Field Trainer about 5 years and Business Review Specialist. I still saw customers everyday but they were other sales peoples. No Pressure or much stress

I LOVED seeing a few, the one's who thought of business as a win-win. Most couldn't care less about me or my survival. Most were European, Brazilian, Asian, Mediterranean, They only cared about their bottom line at whatever the cost.

Anyway, IMHO, DONT GET IN THE FOOD SALES BUSINESS, It will make you no money, just insane flush

I deal with people for about half the shift. The ones that work for me are easy. I just tell them what I need to. The ones I work for are usually easy, too. They let me do what I need to as long as I do it right. The rest of the time, I shut myself in the shooting cab and nobody bothers me.

Yes, in person, phones, emails, texts. And with each passing day, it makes me appreciate my dog more and more.

We sold the company and I went to the house years ago. As stated above, a few great customers and a large amount of sphincters. But 90% of mine were white rednecks.

Here's a mental health tip: When you positively identify a customer that you're never gonna make happy or ever make a profit on, get all helpful-like and tell him you're gonna give him a phone number that will be to his benefit. Make sure he has something to write on and with, then give him the number. When he asks what it is, tell him the name of your direct competition.

It's glorious.

I spend about 1/2 my time in meetings, both face to face and telecoms with people all around the USA, sometimes from the UK too. The rest of my time, I working mainly on a computer preparing for various other meetings and planning work or staffing needs. I also have about 18 people on my staff that I have quite a bit of interaction with, directing work, getting status, personnel concerns (I refer to it as herding cats). Most of the time, everything goes pretty smoothly.

When I have to work in the office, I put my ear buds in but don’t have anything playing. It’s more of a way to keep people from bothering me and also a good way to eaves drop because people don’t think you’re listening.

Clients were always easy, if they were good they got great service at a reasonable price. On the pain in the butts, I enjoyed the thought I was getting outrageous fees for dealing with them. It would usually take a few years, but I kept raising the price until they found a new accountant.

Before I retired I did, now only knife customers which are 99% good people. I certainly don't miss dealing with the idiots that I used to work with.

The guys that work for me are mostly self sufficient so I get a lot of quiet time on nights. When I work days it's a different story. Always dealing with engineers, vendors, contractors, business team needs etc. 50:50

I run Creo (formerly Pro-E) 99.9% of the time. The other 0.1% is trying to remember how to run solidworks for a small simple project for certain customers. I haven't messed with Solid Edge yet, but ran Inventor 10+ years ago in college.
