You can ask about any area or county in the state and the answer will be basically the same.

Depends on each individual property and what's going on around it, there are pockets/areas inside almost all counties with differing deer & turkey populations & habitat.
Folks kill big deer in almost every county every year, even some counties you'd never believe had any unless you saw them.

For shear numbers it's pretty hard to beat the hill country, of course even in the hill country there are some areas even in the same county better than others.

I hunted Fisher county several years ago and now own a place in Stonewall county not too far from Fisher county. Definitely not hill country numbers but for the area I am quite please. Lots of hogs and depending on roosting areas you might have quite a few turkeys. Wheat fields with close brush and a water source would be a plus. I would definitely want a lot of land per hunter if I were looking at a place out there. Close to the river wouldn't hurt either.

That is like asking which bars are good for picking up women, depends on where you are and which bar is next door.

Gotta get off the key board and go look.

I’ve hunted around Rotan for over 35 years. What direction from town are you looking at? I have places to hunt in every direction from Rotan but West.

There are some decent deer in Fisher county but the numbers aren’t great. If I were leasing land I’d look elsewhere.

Big deer, especially in the breaks near the river. If the place is big enough and priced right it will lease. I used to hunt Kent county back in the 90s. Not many deer back then but when you saw one it was a dandy. More deer in the rolling plains right now, than there have ever been. Go check it out.

A good friend of mine owns property west of Rotan and as of the last few years they have been seeing more deer. They don’t feed any supplemental feed, he has mentioned there has been a spike in population.

How many acres and hunters?????? Huge deer that way but depends on many other factors. Food, water, cover, hunters, acres.... If.you aren't on a water source that way, forget it.

Is the deer and turkey hunting good in Rotan?

NO! I've been in Rotan hundreds of times, have relatives who live there, and have never seen so much as a single deer in that town. Besides, although it is a small town with no police department they still frown on shooting in the residential areas. However, if you'll go about a mile out of town things change.

I live in the heart of the Hill Country on a multi-hundred acre property. I do my hunting in Fisher County. Maybe that tells you something. The particular type of land (upland, river bottom, cultivated, mesquite rangeland, "shinnery", or otherwise) will dictate which species are most abundant, but there are a number of areas where whitetails, turkeys, hogs, and coyotes can all be successfully hunted. There are a few limited mule deer in the NW corner of the county along the Double Mountain river.

On your way there, jog a little off the trail if necessary to stop by Bell's Home and Auto in Hamlin (20 miles east of Rotan). He's got a fantastic selection of hunting rifles, ammunition, handloading components, corn and deer feeder supplies, etc. He's got a website at www.sakosource.com
