Leach was a piece of trash, the town drunk, who happened to be a successful football coach. He's a bottom feeder and not the kind of guy I'd want representing my company. I was also at a TTU letterman's breakfast several years ago, homecoming weekend. Leach was scheduled to be the guest speaker. About 150 of us were there eating breakfast, and about 2 minutes before he was scheduled to speak, Leach shows up in an old jogging suit looking thing, looking like he just rollled out of bed after a long night of being his usual drunk self. He spoke for about 5 minutes, didn't take any questions or comments, turned and left. Never mind the fact there were lettermen there who came long distances and sacrificed to get there. Leach has no class, zero.

I also got a chance to witness Bobby Knight make a complete [censored] of himself in a 7-11 on evening. He was about 5th in line and didn't like waiting his turn. He's a jackass.

Beard is making nowhere near top 10 money. His new contract was for 6 years $19 million. At 2.8 million that puts him at 28th among active coaches. He will likely be getting a raise. If not huge mistake on Techs part.

With bonuses, he is going to be around 13th on that list for 2019. And yes, there is already a new contract awaiting his signature.

I never liked Knight even tho he fancies himself as a big bird hunter. 110% arsehole. Can’t believe none of his players ever knocked his old a$$ out.

I am really excited about the awful national media coverage Beard's style of play is getting during this run.

Twelve years ago at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, just a few miles from where the men’s Final Four is taking place, a bull broke loose. It charged about a block through the crowded grounds, miraculously missing all fairgoers. Then it lowered its head, took aim at a fire hydrant and rammed it, dying instantly.

This is the type of gruesome spectacle that we could be in for in Monday night’s national championship between No. 1 seed Virgina and No. 3 seed Texas Tech. Actually, the bull incident might be preferable.

But as basketball at nearly every level moves toward a style that intentionally opens up the court and welcomes made baskets, there is legitimate fear that Monday’s game will leave the college world asking a highly relevant question: Is this really the best we’ve got?

In reality, Virginia-Texas Tech probably isn’t a one-off but rather a preview of where the college game is headed. The winner, of course, will find it beautiful. The rest of us will see a sport being left behind.

You can't please everyone?? I have thoroughly enjoyed all the games I have watched this year. Tech has averaged 76 ppg since Feb.... Same with Duke and Gonzaga. It won't take that many to win tonight for either team.

Love the butt-hurt media's crying and whining. Guess they're all out of sorts because no blueblood school is in the NC game. I think it does the game good that Duke, NC, Kentucky ,etc are watching at home, but I always appreciate the underdog anyway.

Not worried about that. I think this type of attention due to his style of play actually helps Tech retain him longer. Even in success he isn't appreciated, reinforcing the 'chip on the shoulder' mentality.

Pretty good article about Mark Adams who has spent the vast majority of his career in west Texas small college hoops.

Quote
Adams is a native of Brownfield, a town of less than 10,000 roughly 30 miles southwest of Lubbock. He grew up on a cotton farm and graduated from Texas Tech, and his brother still farms peanuts in the region, giving Adams deep West Texas roots.

Adams' 554 career wins in 23 years as a head coach include stops at Clarendon College (JUCO) in the Texas Panhandle, Wayland Baptist (NAIA) in Plainview, West Texas A&M (Division II) in Canyon, and UT Pan American (Division I) in Texas' Rio Grande Valley.

"He’s one of the best coaches I’ve ever known and I’ve known a lot of them," Beard said.

We are kindred spirits on that and on Leach/Knight.
