Certain breeds are clearly more prone
Mals, yes they are high strung protection dogs. I dang near got ate once by one
Our Chihuahua, yes honestly every bite be gave he was right in his mind and mine. I could explain but he was doing his job
My mom is near 60, she had a chihuahua as a kid and she told me theirs was the same way
That Red Heeler I mentioned earlier, wouldn’t kill a fly. Raise your voice around my wife and Katy bar the door. That was her one person. She would lose her mind. Such a great dog

On my first German Shepherd and I don't know if I'll ever own a different breed from here on.
Incredibly smart and very instinctively protective..

I tried to quote your previous quote but can’t do 4 quotes.
I’m not talking about puppies or being ridiculous, anything that has a mouth bites, including the lab.
Was it their fault? Absolutely not, it’s their owners fault for putting them in a position that it was uncomfortable with. It’s our responsibility to know the animal and take appropriate actions to protect them and our guests.
Ex: You bring known/unknown people over, out of the ordinary activities, lots of food and drink and it’s not their normal environment. You’ve asked more than the dog can handle/provide and they lash out to protect their normal environment. Their normal environment could be laying on their bed in their safe place and have a “stranger” to them walk by and try to pet or hug them. That is their space and they are going to do what they feel is necessary to protect it, whether it’s out of fear (more than likely), scared or rattled.
At the end of the day it’s not the dogs fault, it’s the owners fault for not recognizing the situation and taking steps to protect the dog. It’s our responsibility to not put them in that position. Edit: was that example about a lab specifically? Is that why you think labs bite kids? You’re 100% right. All puppies have the ability to “bite” kids. You said labs bite kids in a thread where you’re looking for a dog breed to buy. I was just wondering why you responded to a simple post about buying a lab puppy with “they bite kids.” It made it seem like labs have a history of mailing children, which is not my experience or understanding. You also asked about some pretty protective breeds, but then said you’re ok with muzzling and kenneling when visitors come over. Seemed odd to me. Good luck in your search.
You’re absolutely right, I see where you’re coming from.
My question was about your direct response to the suggestion you get a lab. You said they bite children. That’s what I’m asking about. What, in your experience, says labs are bad because they bite children? It seemed like an odd response to the lab suggestion, especially after you said you’re not shy about putting a muzzle on a dog when company is over. That’s all. In my experience, and research, I’ve never heard that labs are prone to biting children. That’s why I asked.
I just turned it on . I was looking bird dogs in the butt this morning.

You’re absolutely right as long as you don’t put them in a position where they are uncomfortable. My Bassett Hound is the best dog ever until you touch his feet or go towards my wife.

We could have avoided a lot of typing if you’d just said, “I’ve been around labs that have had social anxiety and didn’t like being around a lot of people or new people around their bed.”
Which is a training issue 99% of the time and not at all the norm for labradors. I’m sorry you had a bad experience with a lab, but that’s an anomaly, not the norm. They are very social by nature.

I told you my wife want a mini Australian Shepherd and that’s fine.
We are dog people
But I have kids, neices and nephews...and they have little friends
I just won’t own a dog that can seriously hurt them
That list is prob 5-10 deep.
Id love to have another Sable Shepherd

You said it about this breed, but carry on. You want a dog to protect your house and it’s occupants, but you’re afraid a lab might bite your kids. Good luck with your search. Hope whatever protective breed you get you have professionally trained.

Id love to have another Sable Shepherd Are you worried about the dog nipping the kiddos while trying to herd them? Yes, that lineage runs 1000’s of years Sometimes things happen that was in his/her DNA just out of your control For example, that Heeler I watched round up about 5-6 of my neighbors roping horses. We had 10 acres, they had I’d guess 20 I couldn’t get to her soon enough. Had they of ran thru the barbed wire fence I’d have been in trouble We don’t own horses, never have. She just knew. She had them in a circle, nipping hooves She was smart That Shepherd was ALWAYS on guard. My kids were babes and would ride him (he was 90lbs) Come near those kids, he’d take a man down and I’m serious. I watched him once break a racoon in half that he caught on our porch.

If you’re ever in the Dallas area I’d be more than happy to buy you drink so we can try to understand each other.

I guarantee that Lab will not bite me and my little GSD would be just fine with you. All in how you raise them I agree but ours was a rescue and we missed out on some crucial time.

Lol, not to get personal but are you color blind with bad depth perception? My chocolate (not brown) lab (half the size) is a true PITA.
