I just looked at a piece Southwest of Paris. Lots of surface water for ducks, but I'm primarily interested in deer. My current lease in Stonewall County out West has been put on the sales block so like everyone else that's been making the long drive I'm now looking for something closer to home.

What are leases going for in that area? Campsite but hookups are an unknown at this time.

Go for it. At least check it out. There's a lot to be said for a place that's closer to the house. I don't hunt there but I know there are really good bucks killed every year in Lamar county. Closer to the Red river is probably the best hunting but you just never know where a good buck will come from. Do your homework, walk prospective properties and scout for sign. Good luck on your search.

If possible you want to lease from landowners that live on the property or near it. If not, you will have a very good chance of having a poacher problem in this area. Neighbors will have a big influence on how the hunting will be so I would do my homework there as well. The area has very good potential for ducks and deer, probably more hogs than you would wish for.

We have been there 3yrs now. There are some good deer and hogs have been upping in numbers each year. I also like that it is only am hour and twenty minutes from the house.

I have I thAt county for several years, some good success. There are some slow years, but overall we do manage a couple of deer a year.
