I want to get a tripod and get comfortable with before an axis hunt in may. Bogpod or Trigger stick? It seems like the trigger stick is a quicker set up while in the field.. which is a big plus for me. Would like to hear some recommendations from people that have hands on experience with them. No experience with the bogpod, but I have used a friends trigger stick once. That thing was pretty slick. Pull the trigger and it sort of self levels itself. When we guide, we just use wooden dowels. We built a few out of some 3/4" wooden dowels from home depot with a cheap bicycle tube wrapped about 6" down from the top.

I have both. The bog pog I have is the bipod model. I prefer the Bog over the trigger stick simply because it is lighter weight. The trigger stick is so big and clunky that it has been banished to sit in my tower blind as a rear stock support for long range shots. Out in the field, hiking and glassing for Mulies I only take the BogPog Bipod.

Hands down the Trigger Stick. I take mine with me on walks around the lease, often times this results in hours of walking and a few miles, never felt the trigger stick was too heavy. It doubles as a damn good walking stick. I have the y�all tripod version and absolutely love it

I have both. For light weight and reliability, BogPod. The drawback is if you are spot and stalking you need to have it extended and ready to plant for a shot. The trigger stick is heavier, but you can keep it compact until your ready to plant for a shot. If it's dusty where you hunt, the trigger stick will "stick" and fail to extend to the ground at times. I like it for hog hunting at night for quick setup in the dark. I recommend the tripod for both models.

I ended up with the trigger stick.. The good reviews and the fact that they were on sale helped make the decision a little easier. Now i just need to practice before my Axis hunt in May.

I have two trigger stick tripods. Work great before they stop working. Barely got two years out of either before one of the legs quit "sticking" when I let go of the trigger

I thought rather than starting a new thread I'd bump this one. I just bought one of these - Vanguard Tripod - and so far I'm really impressed with it. It's short enough for me (I'm 6') to use while sitting on the ground and will extend enough to use standing up. It can be used as a mono, bi, or tri shooting stick setup. It's pretty light too, just over 2lbs. I'm taking it to NM after pronghorn next month and will post how it does on the hunt. The main drawback I see is the leg adjustment snaps are plastic. They feel firm but could crack over time. Also, the yoke is very wide, but being 1/4'-20 threads I could probably switch it out.

Definitely keep us posted. I have always used collapsible shooting sticks and love them(Underwood?). Maybe not super sturdy like this kinda stuff but way way light and compact. If I get into shooting more and stretching out my range(im thinking about) then I may need something a little sturdier but doubt ill ever want anything big and bulky.

There are a couple of other options depending on where and how you hunt.

If carrying trekking poles, it easy to make an improvised bipod.

If you are glassing off of a tripod, you can use Outdoorsman's (or similar) Shooting V or Triclawps.

If you can handle the glare off my legs, here are some pictures. Fuzzy thing was not a TOO. I'm 6', you could pull the legs in some and make it a little taller standing, be good to 6'2"-6'4"

I made a 340 yd shot on an antelope off my Bog-Pod using the "cradle" gadget (see pic). The grass was knee-high so I shot with the legs extended & from standing position. Bog-Pod has something new called the "Death-Grip". I know nothing about it except it's expensive.

The reaper rest or knock off on a Mid weight tripod, or even bog pod.

They are a little stouter than a whitetail, know where to shoot them

I've owned both. If you're spot and stalking, go with trigger stick,as it extends and retracts faster. In a more stationary setting, bog pod EVERY TIME! if you loosen/tighten the big pods too much, you can always take them apart, repair, and re-fit...One the trigger stick starts wearing out, they're trash. They also won't hold a weapon over 7 pounds
