I got 12 & 14 year old nephews that want to go hunting next deer season and I am having trouble finding a class around the Sherman (hour north of Dallas) area where they live.
This isn’t a rush situation..... I just put the ball in their court by telling them they were responsible for getting the hunters Ed class done; they had trouble finding one within 75 miles ..... so I looked and couldn’t find one either.
Anyone know of a class with openings in that area coming up please let me know.

With this being the off season, far fewer classes are available. Also, instructors usually wait until a few weeks before they offer a class to have it listed on the TPWD website.
I would suggest contacting Steve Hall, the TPWD Hunter Education Coordinator at the number below and ask him to help you find out who offers classes in your area. That way you'll be ahead of the curve once classes become available.

It is unfortunate that some areas do not have classes within a 75 mile range. As an instructor I live in Corpus which has sufficient class coverage however in the area of my hunting property in Dickens county the kids need to travel a min of 75 to 100 miles for the course. As a consequence I am providing a class in the town of Dickens on April 13th. Now aside from putting in my food plots and chasing some turkey I can help to get some additional kids get involved. Steve Hall is a great guy and allowed me to teach this course 500 miles from my regular home.

Have your nephews talk to teachers or Principals at school. There might be enough interest among other kids to have a class taught. Also have them try talking to different Scout troops to see if they have any interest or can help.

Hunter Ed. Instructor in Sherman Kyle (903) 816-9319. Typically he holds it at Parkside Baptist. He could have quit but he did my son's two years ago. Also don't forget they can still hunt with an adult. Good luck!
