The challenge for me when using open sights is not making an antler restrictions mistake. I mistook a spike as a doe this past season and was fortunate it turned out to be a legal spike with no branches. I was hunting in a heavily wooded area with thickets that made it harder to see the spikes hidden behind the ears. I have binoculars that I often use when making longer shots in food plots and more open areas, but never take them when hunting the brush.

maybe you should get you a pair of 8X32's for hunting in brush, so you don't mistake yearling bucks for does.

Thx for info...32 Win is fairly new acquisition and have never hunted with open sights, starting to get comfortable at 50 yds and really enjoy shooting this gun, will start working out to 100yds. The 25-35 TC is scoped just need time with it

Thankfully it was a genetically inferior spike with un-branched antlers on both sides, the ones that eat well.

Hunted last year, and most years prior for the last 50+ years with a 1925 hotrod caliber in several different newer and older rifles. Other favorites used from time to time over the years have been a 9.3x62 that I foolishly allowed a neighbor to talk me out of, one of several 6.5x55's with a T3 that will probably be the every day shooter keeper in the final downsizing planned for later this year, and most recently used a USRAC limited production Fwt 7x57 as the "back up" carry gun to it's sister FN Carolina built M70 270, my go to primary caliber since 1969, and the final choice of a 3-4 caliber battery. Prolly gonna "retire" the Fwt 7x57 this year....OTOH a Euro built 9.3x57 or x62 would be welcome too. Every year I get past my mid 70's I shorten my KZ's as Ma Nature tells me my limitations more loudly...just like "dirty Harry Callahan's admonition about knowing your own limitations..."

Kmon, thanks for noticing. Been hyper busy with immediate family & 1st circle of friends health issues and reality sez we are gonna loose 3-4 more this year. Getting deeper into chasing the antique furniture bidnizz, buying from 2 Live auctions and looking at another to invest time and effort in eats into the time allocation, with 2 retail sales locations still active and expanding, and closed 2 other locations closed that did not perform to expectation...but this venture is still an over grown hobby at this point. Been looking at expanding again before summer sets in but supporting 3 locations at no more than an hour from home is about all we can handle after my wife's stroke late last fall was a wake up call that the BH & I are not immune to our own health issues ...though we still have the Little ChooChoo that could attitude and will keep at it until it's more work than fun...OTOH the Dirty Harry reference has become a common refrain after sundown. Was really saddened at Randall's demise after all the health issues he had overcome in recent years after falling off that flatbed he was unloading. Planning to hunt again this fall in Fayette County if all the puzzle pieces or any of the Lottery App's come together.

I've been enjoying the 7x57 Mauser and 6.5 Swede the past few years. Of interest, maybe, is I ordered some 7x57 brass a few years ago and when it came in it was head stamped .257 Rigby. I thought that was pretty cool, but I'm simple that way.

The Brits aren't about to have anything German named, even if it is an excellent round. I understand the grudge.

We could re-name it the .284 creedmoor, chamber it in a Tikka and a Savage and sell it to boys here in the states

If the M70 7x57 goes hunting from here on out , it'll probably be without any optics help and used with the original factory folding leaf iron sights like I learned to shoot with in the early '50's. Really like the Old School feel of the rifle that way. Just got to spend some range time shooting offhand to get back to Minute of Deer KZ accuracy out to hunting distances

I broke out the old 30-40 Krag last season and shot a hog with it. I'm 57 and haven't hunted with the gun since I was 13-14. It felt good in my hands and the action was/ is still as smooth as butter. Also shot a good buck last year with my uncles old model 99 in 300 savage.

Some of you should consider taking up turkey hunting with a shotgun and without any form of bait. Depending on calling ability, hunts can be relatively short and very intense.

That’s the law in north east Texas. Shotgun only, no bait.
