What do yall like to use? I normally carry an owl(primos Shock'n owl) and a crow call(haydels). But really don't think they are overly effective.

What are yalls opinion on them and what calls do you like to carry with you?

I usuallly have a crow call for during the day and early mornings just hoot like an owl. But I have killed gobblers that shock gobbled to Truck Horn, bull bellow, donkey bray, shotgun shot, truck door, coyote howl, thunder. Especially on the roost about any loud noise will get them to gobble.

During the day a loud crow call has worked many times

I will hoot like an owl pre-dawn, or a couple yelps with a diaphragm, After sun up, they will usually respond to a yelp even when hen'd up.

A bicycle bulb horn from the bicycle section of Walmart. Less than $5, just don't sit down on it before sunup, the noise will wake you up ASAP.

Never had much luck with a crow call. Owl hooter in the pitch black AM... and then I've had luck using a goose call as well.

After the sun is up I normally use fast aggressive cutting to get them to sound off.

Tried an owl hooter. Never got a response. Then tried a crow call and it worked fairly well. Then I tried a coyote howler and have never used anything else. It is by far the loudest of them all and it almost always gets a response prior to first light.

Our cattle guys cow siren works pretty good sometimes. Funny story about 5 or 6 years ago. One morning not much action so my son wanted to hike to this giant rock mound on our place. We were messing around on top of it and cow guy blows his siren and a bird thundered. It was about noon. He was 1/2 mile to our west and turkey was 1/4 mile to our east where we were earlier. I then called and boom response finally after nothing all morning. Well we high tailed it through the mesquite thicket to the oaky more open area. Called and he was right there but thick cover. We did 5 minutes of cat and mouse and moved a few times and he stepped out in a small opening 15 yards away. My favorite hunt so far. And a big tom.

I have a peacock call, but never have had it work as far as shock gobble. Only call I've ever used to shock gobble is a box call. confused2

I use an open reed Crit'R Call Magnum. It is very loud. My buddy always puts his fingers in his ears when I blow it. Normally, I only use it prior to first light and maybe after. Couple things I forgot in original post that others reminded me of. One is that once flydown is over if I am walking, I'll leave a mouth call in and about every 100 yards or so (while walking in the sandhill cedar canyons) I'll let out a few hen yelps. Once I get a response I will usually sit down and try and bring that bird in if he's close. Two is the peacock call. I bought one when I first started turkey hunting because it was all I could find locally. Never got a response on it. Not sure if it's because they've never heard a peacock but as others have said "loud is King" and I don't think it was very loud.

never used oe owned a peacock call but have used that noise/ With a mouth call you can do a fairly loud peacock. I have had fun calling and getting peacocks to come in strutting with a mouth call at a friends place

I mainly use an owl call in the AM and crow during the day. Running and gunning with a box call will generally get one fired up. Coyote call, goose call, peacock, air horn, and slamming a truck door have all worked. I've also have a helicopter come over during a hunt and every time the rotors did the thump, thump, thump sound two birds in a field would gobble at it. Also, was hunting some private ground in OK one year. They guy had zebras of all animals. I guess the mare was in heat and had the stud separated from her. He was very territorial. My buddy and I walked up to the gate to enter where the stud was pinned, and he charged us making this loud hissing sound. That was immediately followed by 10-15 gobbles from different birds. The look on my buddy's face was priceless. That's been over 10 years ago, and we still make the joke to break out the zebra call when we aren't having any luck getting birds to gobble on the roost.

Grandson and I were surprised opening day of duck season getting a response from a roost gobbler by blowing a hail call on the duck call. Haven't been back yet, glad to find the roost.
