Guys I’m heading to Alaska in September to hunt with a friend of mine Mont Mahoney and I just can’t wait!! I originally was going for sheep but a few recent knee surgeries have squashed that plan so I’m moving the sheep hunt to another year and going to chase some caribou in the arctic circle on a solo drop camp hunt. So Mont has a spot open for a Dall sheep hunt if anyone is looking and I think he’s got a few spots open for arctic grizzly bear.
Anyone else going to be in Alaska this season??

DIY caribou and/or moose hunts are very affordable but grizzly bear and sheep hunts require a guide and they get a little pricey and require some saving and planning. I’m hoping to get the chance at a wolf also during my week caribou hunt. My wife is not happy at all I’m going to be alone but finding someone to go was tricky. I hope to post a hunt review with pics when I get back.

did you get a sheep?

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Congrats. Is it a fly-in and fly-out hunt, or are you floating to a take out point? Herd is good size and as long at they are in the area you are dropped, you should do good. Have you hunted in AK before?

Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.

Fly in Fly out from Bettles Alaska probably an 80 to 100 mile flight in from Bettles depending on where the herds are according to my bush pilot. I grew up in Delta Junction Alaska until the age of 11 so I hunted some as a kid but have not been back to hunt since.

I'm headed up May 15 for black bear. Couple old Coast Guard buddies of mine are stationed in Ketchikan and invited me up. We rented a forest service cabin a few hours boat ride north of town. We will be hunting out of a 35 foot boat most days as well as crab trapping during the down time. I am really looking forward to it!

They should put you on them easy. Good luck.

I have a cabin on the Delta Clearwater River and also fly out of Delta to Moose hunt every year.
