Hey guys I have a question. I’ve turkey hunted now for 4 years and I guess I’ve been fortunate enough that weather has never been a factor. Tomorrow we have a cold front moving in and it’s supposed to be 58 for a high with 24mph winds. I know you can’t shoot anything if you are not out in the woods however I was wondering with those conditions am I wasting my time? I sit in a ground blind of course so it’s not bad on me I was just wondering if weather conditions would make it worth holding off or going out?
Thanks

Is it usually windy there? If so no problem at all. Also...I have seen if been warm for several days a cool front with a rising barometric pressure can make birds gobble like crazy. I think you will be fine.

Unless its life threatening weather, be out there. I've killed a fair share of birds in the snow on opening day. Blind, heater, coffee...I'm set. Turkeys still move and follow their daily routine, just may not gobble as much or be as receptive to calls

Yes it’s normally breezy I know when it’s windy like it’s supposed to be the deer hunting is dead it then deer use Sense of smell. I didn’t know if either the high winds or 58 degree temps would matter! I think the low will be in the upper 40’s.
Turkey are for sure unpredictable

THIS^^^ A few years ago (maybe 4) the north zone Texas opener was same...was pretty hot all week...getting into 90's and a cold (cool) front came through Friday night with 25 mph north winds and lows in the 50's and it was one of the best mornings I can remember...birds moved and gobbled like crazy.

Turkey are for sure unpredictable I'm seeing lows in the mid to high 30's for Sunday/Monday morning. Clear skies...they should gobble good. I'll blind hunt the morning. Once it warms up, I'll move to free range. I'll be in Stephens County, South of Breckenridge.

I have killed them opening day in 30s and last day of the season in the 80s with 30 mph wind. Some days they are hot, some days they are not.

I think you are going to be fine. I have two different sets of buddies hunting the North Opener this weekend and both groups heard birds gobbling their heads off this morning.

Like others have said the birds are there all the time. I have killed them with temps, and winds in the 30s. Ine thing on a windy day a good friction call can help a lot Box calls carry further in the wind but some glass and metal calls work well in the wind. Know that if a bird is down wind of you he can hear you a long ways but cannot hear him that far and if the bird is up wind get loud so he can hear you better.
Good luck, have fun and be safe

Dang wind. I don't know if I'm mad enough at the turkeys to go out in this,

IMO, the greatest variable in turkey hunting are hens. Worst time to hunt a gobbler is when he has plenty of hens nearby and the best time is when he doesn't. He might fight through a thunderstorm to reach you if his hens are all sitting.
Turkeys are going to move no matter the weather conditions because they have to eat. IMO, the wind only makes it harder for them to hear you calls.

My two groups of buddies in nw Texas are killing the piss out of them. One group has killed 4 other 6. Told me birds are hammering. Said all they did was get down in the creek bottoms out of the wind.

Well I’m glad someone saw birds. I have a spartan camera that sends me texts and the last 2 weeks they have been going crazy. Today I sat in the blind for 6 hours with 28+ mph winds and 48 degrees weather and didn’t see anything.
Oh well that’s hunting

Had an opening weekend with the same type weather about 12 or 14 years ago. Saturday the wind howled and was very cool temps. Both moderated for Sunday morning. By 930 I had filled all my turkey tage that morning. Spent the rest of season taking friends out fo a bird
