Had a blast in Hawaii! We came home with six deer total between the three of us. I was able to harvest three deer on my own, two bucks and one doe and catch a bunch of fish (I'll add a complete trip later of everything that happened)

There's a lot of things I felt weren't expressed in the video after editing including stories that need to be heard and told. I'll be sure to add those next time I go. If you've never heard of Pigin talk it's very interesting and we heard it all over Molokai smile
I have more editing to do and more videos and photos to post later on, but this was the start.

If you have any interest in going on this hunt, I'll be going back in May message me if you're interested. (I can film everything too)

Thank you for all of the support and encouragement everybody!

I need to do this. My wife can lay on the beach and I can go shoot a few Axis deer, win win.

Looks like a great time!

It's a blast! Definitely worth the money hands down.

Thinking of doing this this summer! Which island did you do it at? Maui? Did you use outfitter? How difficult was it getting everything back to lower 48 (meat and antlers).

Great Post thanks!

I doubt it. From what I have seen Texas Axis have better antlers. And Texas also has a beach. And I would imagine a lot less expensive and easier to get your meat and antlers back home.

I've hunted axis in both TX and HI. Below is based solely on my personal experiences. In HI I kept hunting axis/wild boar on Molokai and turkeys on the big island. With the exception of price, HI is better for boar in all categories.

HI was significantly less than comparable hunts in TX. The primary reason was they do not charge based upon antler size unlike many places in TX. In TX I have seen some published prices that were higher than a round trip ticket to HI and the cost to hunt an axis buck in HI.

HI produces significantly better tasting meat than TX (which is still damn good). Hard to beat lush vegetation that is green all year. They eat wild basil which adds even better flavor.

HI produces larger bodies. I'll give credit to the amount of browse, the quality of it, and year-round availability of it. There is no predation in HI except for the occasional pack of feral dogs.

Call it a tie for rack size. I shot a very nice 35" in TX. However, I've seen some bruisers in HI that were just as long if not longer and had more mass. Seen some dinks and decent ones in both states. Seen scores of massive axis racks that my guide had shot over the years. The largest axis buck I have ever seen was the very first axis buck that I saw in HI. Still regret not shooting him.

Scenery? Landscape? Beaches? HI. End of discussion.

No issues getting the capes, racks, dead heads (cleaned up) home from HI.

There are two issues with hunting in HI.

The first is getting the meat home. Everything goes through FDA inspection. However, every time I brought meat home I had less meat than when I left HI. Somewhere from the FDA inspection until the plane landed, my backstraps and tenderloins would always disappear (I should have mislabeled them to see if that would have put an end to the theft). I did learn to weigh the container before and after landing. If it was lighter than when I dropped it off, then I'd go straight to customer service and raise hell.

The second is do not bring your own firearm. You will have to register it with every police department in every city you go through. They will then send that information to the feds for inclusion into a firearms registry. It is much easier to just borrow the guide's firearm.
