My older truck got hammered. I’m not sure if they will total or not but probably. What bluebook or vehicle value reference does the insurance company use?

I would only trust the insurance companies that have tons of awards and accolades. roflmao

nada and kbb are the 2 main value guides, if it's real old, cpi. be sure to write down any bolt on upgrades you may have done and find any receipts for recent major repairs like engine or trans overhaul/replacement

Most insurance companies use a buying service that surveys prices within a certain radius of the claimant. The math is simple repairs + salvage vs market price. there is a fudge factor that leans towards totaling a vehicle in case there's hidden damage.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

Bummer for sure. Good luck but I'm afraid you are screwed.
'96 hammered by hail will be a total. If windshield busted, hurry to the salvage yards and get a replacement before they are gone. Tell insurance company you'll keep the salvage with no deduction as it will cost them more in wrecker and sales fees than salvage value. Now you have a beat up hunting truck, new windshield and maybe a few tanks of gas $

My buddy is going through the same thing with his truck. It got hammered last weekend too. Luckily for him, it was already used mainly for going to and from his hunting property.

That’s all this is for.

Do people buy trucks with salvage titles? The window has one new crack. Luckily I got it inspected last weekend

A lot of people have a soft spot in their hearts for the 96-99 Silverados. Especially clean, low mileage ones like I think yours is (was, sorry)? Seems like you'd put a pic up here at one time, is it a white one? Provided the damage wasn't complete, someone could easily sand and bondo the dents and have it line-x'd, wrapped, or even a spray bomb camo job. Hell, I'd be interested in it for that. I would think it would be an easy sell even with a salvage title.
