Had nothing to do with me. Called and ask if it was ok to bring my son out for a little fishing and found out the landowners are not allowing any more guests on the property because a guest was carless with a cigarette and started a fire that required the fire department to show up and put the fire out. I hate that I can't bring my son there to fish anymore as it was a Great Lake for kids to fish but I don't blame the landowners one bit for their decision because they have to protect their property and lookout for what's best for them. It amazes me people will gain access to land or water on private property and then not respect the property as if it were their own or better then they would treat their own land.

Please for the love of God, if you are invited or allowed on private property treat it with respect and always be courteous and careful or you could ruin it for everyone.

It stinks that you lost a fishing spot.
I have been invited back many times to places because we cleaned up and left it better than we found it. But some folks are just flat out disrespectful, it sucks that others pay they price.

I was thinking about y'all earlier today. Was gonna ask if youd been out there fishing lately. Dang, that was a really good fishin' hole.

The really sad part is the youngster has to pay a price for an idiot. May be in time the land owner will give you a shot at it again. I always try to go out of my way to help the land owner. It pays down the road.

Smoking can be a nasty habit, especially in the outdoors. Sorry someone did not put out their "coals" and compromised this opportunity you had. Sucks..

Sorry you lost the place especially for your kids

Exact same reason some LO's do not lease their property - some folks just will not take care of it -

That kind of thing happens all the time. As pointed out, some folks just will not take care of others folks places.

Had a friend who wanted to come and fish my lake. Told him okay and then he said he needed some fish for his deer lease work weekend fish fry. Told him that Kroger's had catfish on sale and it would be better if he got his fish there.

He had never invited me to his deer lease in the past.

I bet if you spend a little time around you can find cigarette buts everywhere too, that pisses me off, people just toss them on the ground like they aren't trash. I put a gum wrapper in my pocket because i'd rather wash it than drop it. I will toss wood toothpicks and banana peels in the bushes though.

I know I'm going to get hammered for this but the majority of the people who smoke are very disrespectful of their habit and how it effects others. Any time I have someone who smokes around I stay paranoid as heck flipping the butt is a habit that most just don't give a second thought to. Like the OP stated I've had to deal with a fire because of someone's carelessness and my dry environment. I know some are going to think I'm a [censored] but if you come to my place and you smoke we will discuss your habit when you arrive. The first time it happens you will be warned the second you are asked to leave. As for the fishing I buy 125 8" catfish every July at 1.00 each we feed 150 dollars worth of feed to them a month you want to fish and we keep one for supper that's great all the rest are catch and release so that there will always be plenty for the kids to catch and enjoy when they are there.

In 2009 our entire property burned. Fire department said it was a cig but tossed out on the county road. Plus side is the deer loved it and the burn was good for the place.

That stinks. My next door neighbor at home lost their lease out west when a guy on the lease threw a butt out and burned the whole camp down. Campers and everything.

Sucks sapper, hate to hear that.

My lake was a bountiful supply of large catfish when we first got it. Unbeknownst to me, my father in law gave permission for the workers who did our house to go fish in there Friday’s and during their lunch breaks as long as they “caught and release”

Fast forward over a year later and the house was built way behind schedule and we no longer catch anywhere near the quantity nor quality of fish in the lake .i am certain they cleaned it out. Sometimes it takes just one person, sometimes it take a whole crew bang

The vast majority of cigarette smokers are inconsiderate slobs. The world is their ashtray. Most of them are dirt poor, piss ignorant trash with no respect for other people.

Yes, I agree, that stinks. People are dumb a$$es these days. And it is getting more socially acceptable for lack of respect for other people.

AMEN! I feel lucky. The landowner where I hunt in OK has, on multiple occasions, given me a new gate combination. He changes the combo every time someone fouls up and is asked not to come back. I feel lucky that he continues to trust me even when others have been careless or just plain stupid.

That sucks. Bring him to Cedar Creek and I'll take y'all out. Can't promise we will do any good but we can try.

As a former smoker, I cannot argue with any comments which are negative about smokers.

It's a bad habit.

Enough said, not on my place any more..

I’ve seen guys throw their cigarette butts on the ground at my place, like it’s nothing. I have run off “friends” that have never been back to my place over it. If I wanted butts everywhere, I’d have it. There are a few who smoke that are responsible for their trash, & don’t need telling. Most smokers, however, think they have a God-given right to throw their trash anywhere, like they’re doin the world a favor.

No weno, but you're not alone. I have lost access to a number of good fishing and hunting spots because of the actions of others. All you can do is be a good guest/stewart and whatever happens after that is out of your control.

There are several really good wading spots that I grew up fishing regularly in my neck of the woods. I took my oldest kids there many times, could drive out there and park. I'd put them on a big styrofoam float tied to my waste and get after it. Can't do that anymore. Why? Because trashy azz people would also go there and leave loads of beer bottles/cans and trash behind. Even dumping loads of household trash on the water's edge. Those spots are no longer accessible. Pizzes me off to no end but that's the way it is. I can't take my two little kids there now to share those memories because of human trash.

Oh wait, I've got some tattoos that makes me trash too. smile

I lost one place because of people 4 wheeling when it was muddy. Best coyote pasture I ever had, the landowner let someone else hunt there, and they tore up his road, so he made everyone stop hunting there.

I let some folks bring kids to catch and release fish. They can keep bass and crappie to eat. You can catch a perch/sunfish/blue gill nearly every cast on calm days. Catfish are fed as a crop for us, so we keep them.

There is no smoking.... period. Also, no live or blood/stink bait, no vehicles of any kind in the pasture, no firearms oddly enough, and one kid per adult. We even have a grill if you want to grill some up or grill some hotdogs or whatever. BUt the days are numbered, trash, crud, gates, etc are ruining it for everyone. And I'll be the jerk when I have to shut it off.

I've had people try and night fish, they cant figure out how I catch them.,... wish you were closer.

Why no blood or stink bait? I’m just curious. I don’t use it, don’t like the smell, I’m a cut perch fan. I’m just wondering how you think that would hurt the tank? I don’t let anyone use store minnows in my tank either, I understand that.
