I ran for many years, then switched to walking. I have always walked in running shoes. For many years I only wore New Balance. Then the quality went to China. I walked a few thousand miles in Nike Shox. Then they went the way of NB. Then my last few pairs have been Reebok Zig Techs. I really liked them, but the last two pair didn't last. Are they all Chinese junk now? Which Chinese junk is for me next?

What do some of you guys run in? And I like running shoes for about everything. I may walk 3-5 miles, or use the Nordic Track cross ski machine, or just wear them for whatever. I walk on pavement and I average around 160 pounds if that matters.

I've switched over to Under Armor shoes for my walking shoes even t though they are actually running shoes. They are very light weight and comfortable. I have a wide foot and seldom find them in the wide option in the stores so I usually wind up ordering them straight from Under Armor.

It seems many of them are junk now. I wore New Balance then the quality went down. Wore Nikes until the "air" went flat after a couple of months. I hate paying $160 for shoes that only give you two months of wear. I wish I had an answer but I am searching as well.

Well Nike , Under Armour, and Reebok’s are junk

I highly recommend going to a run on and learn what shoes do what for your style and walk= less chance at junk

Brooks, New Balance, Saucony, and a few other boutique brands will be better. Prepare to spend $130

Brooks Adrenaline is one of the better

I have large feet and I carry a lot of weight

When I used to run I had somebody tell me to pay attention to what medical professionals wear. They are on their feet longer than anybody on hard floor. Back then it was nothing but New Balance.

A friend of mine recently told me his RN wife said that now it is Asics and Brooks. I was at Christus in Tyler recently and the somewhat heavy guy taking care of my mom was wearing Under Armour. But he said he paid a pretty price for insoles for those.

Its getting crazy.

EDIT: I know there are lots of models, but the Asics I bought a good while back are nothing but house shoes to me now---junk!

Brooks Beast here for my plantar fasciitis, with the better inserts replacing what comes in 'em. I was in Academy today - no Brooks anywhere.

I walk, never ran. 20lbs. overweight.

My need to continuously search for comfortable shoes is simply karma for my years of making fun of old dudes. Okay, I still make fun of old dudes.

Everyone should wear shoes that are very minimal or zero drop. We're meant to be barefoot, so try to stay to that. I love inov-8 shoes, but pay attention to their fit scale. You want a wide toe box, your toes shouldn't be constricted by the shoe.

I've heard great things about Altra too, but haven't tried them out for myself.

Last two pair have been Skecher's and I'm very happy with them.

I haven't tried what wood i0s suggesting yet. It sounds like he is much more advanced than I am. I'll echo the others recommending Brooks. I love the adrenalin for walking. However, i use other Brooks models for jogging as I need more cushion for the extra punishment on aging knees. Plus, I'm carrying 40lb more than I should.

I've worn the Brooks Adrenaline GTS series for nearly five years. They will last about 6 months running avg 2 miles a day, plus all other walking/etc., but that depends on when you feel a shoe is 'worn out'. You might make 9-12 months on a pair. The 19s are out now but supposedly they changed them a bit and not everybody likes them. The Beast is a great shoe but $160 is stiff.

Most of you have seen how ph'ed up my feet are. 11.5 , 6EEEEEE

New balance and Orthofeet are the only ones I have found. The Orthofeet are GREAT but look liked tricked up mailman shoes. NB only 2 styles.

I cant wear anything "cool" any more not even Cowboy Boots bang

I guess Velcro is my next step hammer

My wife used to do a lot of running, 5-6 miles a day, and she always had the best luck with Asics.

I bought a pair of Brooks online, no wide sizes at Academy. They come with a 90 day return policy, even if you’ve worn them. One year if not worn.

Hoka One One Bondi and Napali ATR are the most cushioned shoes i have had. I like the Asics Gel Kayano 25's as well.
The Bondi's are my favorite.

After looking at some of the crappy shoes y’all are wearing , a trip to a run on and spending a little money would be a game changer in your life. You don’t have to be a runner

Most ASICS are junk, Skechers are super junk , cheap new balance are junk

Take care of your feet

Cushiony shoes are the devil, essentially you lose a lot more feel, easier to roll your ankle, etc. because you can't feel.

Buzzsaw, look at altra, they got a wide toe box

Cushiony shoes help with joints if you don't have the best form. Not looking for feel or worrying about rolling an ankle when walking.

You just identified the main problem, form. Fix your form and things will work like they're supposed to.

My things work like they are supposed to with the shoes i wear now. 6 decades of walking/running takes a toll on the body for some of us.
Bottom line is there is a significant difference in how much better i fell now with these compared to what i used to wear. I no longer look for a shoe
with control. Room in the toe box and cushion lets me walk/jog/ride farther with less pain afterwards. My last pair of shoes were Altra, have absolutly
nothing negative to say about them, good shoes for sure. What i have now is better for me than they were. Not all will have the same results, i understand that.

Brooks if you’re going to actually run.

I find myself wearing Merrells most of the time. They offer a level of comfort and stability I haven’t found in any other shoe. They’re a bit heavy for running though.

I run in New Balance 880v9 shoes, they are great. My last pair of 880v7 lasted over 750 miles of running before they started giving my feet issues. You have to make sure to buy their running specific shoes, they look very similar to their cheaper casual shoes.

Also for cheaper, Saucony has a cheaper model "cohesion" that was great for me for a while, probably ran 400-500 miles in them,

I think just one style now. It’s extremely ugly and expensive. I battle with myself every time I buy shoes. I want to buy them because I’m all about made in America. Just can’t do it. The shoes I buy are actually a little more expensive but very comfortable and durable. Guess I should try the NB made in USA shoes. I gave up on fashion long ago.

I was an Asics fan for a few years but my last pair was crap, and expensive to boot, so I moved on to Brooks. So far so good, really impressed with the comfort of them 4 months in

I would be hesitant go throw out any brand wholesale. Nike makes a bunch of crappy shoes that look like running shoes, but they also make a shoe that every single serious or professional marathoner wants to wear
Heck, even athletes sponsored by other shoe brands will risk their sponsorship by painting their Nikes too look like whatever shoe they are supposed to be wearing.

I've got bear paws for feet (very wide) and the only shoes that I wear have been New Balance 991's and they're made in the USA... Don't really recommend them for running as they're kinda heavy, but for me being a coach on my feet all day long, I haven't found anything better! Been wearing nothing but 991's for the past 10-15 years

I wear Nike Air Max running shoes. I have a few different pairs that I rotate through. Nike has a really good warranty that most people don't know about. They have a 2 year warranty on materials and workmanship. I have not used it on my shoes but have used the warranty on my youngest sons soccer cleats. He plays year round and they are usually starting to come apart after the first year. I just get in contact with them and they email me prepaid shipping label. They usually ask what the issue is and then its OK no problem. We buy the cleats online from Nike so they have the purchase on file. We ship them back and they give us a full refund to the card we used to purchase them. Then we turn around and purchase another pair. Comes in handy when your paying $300-$350 for a pair of cleats! Done this for last 3 yrs with no issues.

I currently use Asics ($60 or so from Academy) but I am getting more into running so I am going to eventually invest in a good pair of shoes. I have never been into distance running and I can only go about 2 miles currently but that is much better than when I started.

Shoe brand is such an individual thing. Nothing NIKE makes fits me. Same with Brooks. Adidias has been the 'go-to' for several years with athletic type shoes. Justin workboots do not fit at all. Woverines and H-H fit like a glove.

If you are walking for fitness purposes and distance is involved the best thiing you can do is go to one of the specialty stores and get a gait assessment. Run-On or Dallas Runnign Co. are 2 in the DFW area. Houston and Austin have several to choose from too. That narrows down which shoe manufacturers make the shoe(s) that would fit your type of gait pattern. These stores also have a wider selection of sizes/styles. It is also great info that carries over to other types of footwear.

For instance my left foot is a full size larger than my right. I have to fit my left for anything I wear. I also was fitted with an over the counter (OTC) orthotic for my work boots. I wear the same orthotic in all my shoes now - workout shoes, hunting boots, etc. Takes the guess work out of it and I know what to look for and can watch sales for those particular items.

I found a great deal online, actually at the Brooks online store of all places. I have a pair of Brooks Beast on the way. I hope that is the answer. I appreciate all the feedback!!
