If Boeing says they've fixed the issue with this aircraft and the FAA signs off, will you be comfortable getting on one?

No, but my rich neighbor bought some of their stock at the low point.

Just ask if they paid for the two safeties that are extra and may be the cause of the two that crashed that didn't have them confused2

I would fly in one.

Pilots where the US carriers fly the 737 Max 8s know how to fly.

I am a pilot who knows many ATP pilots. I know no one who flies the Max 8, but US carrier pilots know how to turn off the autopilot and fly the damn airplane.

Was on a recent trip. Going out was on one of these. Coming back, same thing, was the day they were grounded. Southwest Airlines. What are the odds that out of their large fleet I'd be on one of them (they have 37 I think) twice in a matter of a few days.

I would fly in one. Last I heard they are still looking to see what caused the 2nd crash. Still thousands of times safer than getting in your car.

The thing is....when that plane gets thrown all over the place, gets in a stall, whatever......that F18 pilot has "been there done that, a lot."

An F18 stall is not common. The really bad thing is termed a departure.

That seems equivalent to charging extra for an emergency brake on a car or truck. Knowing how long emergency brakes have been standard equipment on vehicles, it blows my mind that an aircraft manufacturer would charge extra for anything that might result in a crash if not available.

"Need landing lights? That will cost extra. Need an airspeed indicator? That will cost you extra. Need an alarm that tells you the airspeed indicator has failed so the auto-pilot doesn't put you in a nose dive? That will cost you extra."

Ridiculous.

Smells to me that Boeing and others have been dictating to the FAA the rules on how they will design and sell airplanes to their customers.

Not exactly how that works. If you want your aircraft certified in certain ways it has to have certain equipment. Everything you add to a aircraft adds weight, so if it is something you don't use, why would you want it add it to your aircraft. We operate hundreds of aircraft and most of them are set up differently for different jobs. It isn't like buying a car, but some things are standard, like airspeed indicators and parking brakes, unless your aircraft does not have wheels.

I flew Southwest to NO and back for Mardi Gras. We were on 737's, pretty sure they were MAX because of the huge engines. I think the US companies do enough training that they are safe to fly, so yes I would fly on one again.

It is not surprising. They use the same airplanes on the same routes routinely.

Not smelling good for the FAA and Boeing.

The report at the link below offers a video and third-party perspective of the problem suspected in two crashes over the last five months.
