Bought a Springfield with the 5.25” barrel. I ran a couple hundred cheap, FMJ rounds through it and a magazine of Buffalo Bore. It was plenty accurate and had no issues of any kind. Three of us took turns shooting it, and we were all pretty impressed. We took it out to 100 and 150 yards, and could hit or get close to bigger rocks (3 or 4 feet in diameter, maybe) on a surprisingly regular basis. We shot at a bunch of jackrabbits that were about 100 yards. Never did kill one, that we know of, but I highly recommend such sport if you ever get the chance. My goodness, that was fun. We laughed like a bunch of little kids. At any rate, I highly recommend the pistol, so far. I can’t think of anything I don’t love about it.

I have two 10mms, an auto and a revolver. I've thought about getting one of the XDM 10mms. I used to carry the auto when pig hunting in South TX, but felt bad about leaving the brass behind...and had no desire to reach down and feel around for it in clumps of grass and brush in the dark! I had the revolver built and couldn't be happier. I even thought about a Glock 29 to carry, but decided it wouldn't have much advantage over what I carry now with such a short barrel. Always have loved the caliber, though.

Very cool! It's always nice when a plan comes together. Yes. I’m always a bit nervous about how any auto pistol will shoot after spending the money. I haven’t always been happy with that type of purchase. This was money well spent, I believe.

I was looking at these and tempted to buy one. Grip fits my hand much more favorable than the big glock 40. Sights and trigger seem better too (straight from the factory). I was disappointed they don’t have a model that is ready to accommodate a red dot/reflex sight, but not 100% that I would want to run one on this gun anyways. What rounds were most accurate through it this far? How did it do with buffalo bore ammo? Recoil remain fairly domesticated or did it start getting out of hand? What holster are you carrying it in?

I don’t have a holster, yet. One is on the way. I also have a spring kit coming for the trigger. The trigger is alright, for an auto pistol, but it could be better. I guess that’s the one thing about it I’m not thrilled with, though I’m not disappointed, either.
The Buffalo Bore was only slightly stouter feeling than the FMJ. Recoil was no concern. I’ve only shot the BB and the cheap S&B FMJ. They were both pretty accurate, other than a few underpowered flyers with the cheap stuff. Something you wouldn’t even notice at 20 yards, but is obvious at 100.
I thought a red dot would be fun, but after seeing what can be done with the irons, I don’t think it would be worth the extra bulk or money. Maybe for a dedicated target/plinking gun. This will be my everything pistol, from targets to bear defense. I’ll keep it high speed/low drag.

Think you get consistent enough accuracy to make it a 50 yard or less deer hunting handgun with those buffalo bore loads and current iron sight and factory trigger configuration?

I only run one magazine of the BB through it, and that was around 20 yards. I’d have to shoot those more to say for sure. 50 yards is probably pushing it, for me to be confident in it to shoot deer. That may have more to do with my own limitations. With practice and more time with those rounds, it wouldn’t surprise me if I could get to that point with this pistol in its current configuration. And if the BB wasn’t tight enough, I bet I could find something that is, like Chad’s ammo, or similar. I intend to do more thorough testing with it and find out.

I’m going to sell my glock 40 and get the Xds. Keep us updated. I’m envious, btw.

Really great range report...now I want one... Everyone should have a 10mm. There’s a lot of great options, these days. This is definitely one of them.

I am a huge Springfield fan.

I am, too. I had been wanting a 10, for awhile, but couldn’t find anything just right. When Springfield announced the XDM in 10 mm, I was sold.
My spring kit came in. Powder River had a great install video on YouTube that I doubt I could have done without. Everything went well, other than a ten minute pause to find the striker spring guide that the striker spring launched across the room. I knew that would happen, but I wasn’t prepared for that sort of panic. Luckily, I found the stupid thing and got it together. Just dry firing it, I can tell a great improvement. Less travel, fore and aft, and a couple pounds lighter pull. Very well worth the money, I think.
