When I was finishing up my Post Doc at NMSU, I bought my dad a Ruger Blackhawk as a Christmas gift to show my appreciation for all his help getting me through school. I really wanted to also make him a holster, but just didn't have the time. Well, earlier this year, my Dad mentioned he wanted to get a shoulder holster for his 357, so he could throw it on a night when he needed to go check the barn. I decided, I would make him one. After some research, turns out large pistol shoulder rigs have buckles, snaps, straps, etc you have to situate, and I know that is not what my dad wanted. So...I figured a bandolero would fit the bill. Besides, I have always wanted to learn how to sew on those cool bullet loops.

Well done! That's a very nice and handy rig. I love the bandolero system for its very simplicity. You can just throw it on and go.

Wow! Nice job! I've got a "tanker" holster I use for my 1911 during hunting season. Similar concept.

Very nice job, its a beauty. Did you sew the loops? I made a couple belts with loops for 44 mag and used a punch that you use to cut the pin slot for the buckle and looped the strip through the holes. Riveted end of strip on back side about 3/4 in. before first slot, threaded 3 loops with cases and pulled tight punched hole between first two and riveted, keeping a couple loops ahead of riveting to keep tight. On last loop pull tight and rivet again. When looking how to sew the loops this came up as alternative way and won't have thread break.

I agree, awesome job.

Does the back side of the holster have a belt loop so he can slide his belt through?

That’s badass. I’m sure he is beyond happy and will probably show that off to everybody that comes around.
