Got a call from another landowner about beavers causing flooding from their work on his water tank. In this case, the backed-up water was flooding a field that he needs to get into for pasture work. He told me that he had already shot 1 or maybe 2 in daylight, but there was a large lodge in the middle of the water and other beaver that were coming out after dark. I showed up early to scout the area. Sure enough, I could not get around behind the tank to survey the other side of the pond and the field beyond it because the water had saturated the ground around the pond including the dirt path leading into the field. It took a while for the beaver to finally come out. In short order I had shot at 3 with 2 definite kills and no other activity for over an hour, so many 3 hits after all...

First one went down like the Titanic.
People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf

First one went down like the Titanic. It makes it easier when they are on land. He was facing away, but the bullets penetrate 16" or so while expanding and fragmenting. I figured it would be a good shot right toward the head. The shot probably ruined much of what was inside of his chest as well.

If there are any beavers remaining, they're probably having nightmares about you!
I have two unwritten rules: 1. 2.

The landowner will want to drag them out of the tank. From my experience Nothing will feed on them and they will just float around in the tank.

They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

I just got off the phone with the landowner. He went out and broke open the dam with a rake after I hunted. The beavers have not been back to repair the dam and the marks he left in the mud of the dam breach are still present. So it would appear beaver #3 is no longer active. So with his initial daylight efforts and my follow-up night efforts, this group has been successfully removed.
