I recently did my yearly maintenance on my Mule 610 and they guy doing it recommended me using a octane booster to help with possible water in the gas from condensation or old gas however it gets in there. Everything i look up doesn't seem to recommend adding a octane booster but because of performance not really to freshen up and burn out old gas.

Anyone know about using a octane booster and which one is recommended?

Personally wouldn't mess with it. If it runs fine then run the gas out of it or drain it. If the tank isn't full then add some fresh fuel. If there is water in the fuel I personally would drain it.

I think most make more mountains out of mole hills these days than anything. Our boat sat for 5 months gas in the tank, fuel line, and injectors. Fired on the first crank and idles smooth as glass and ran perfect on the first trip out.

My mothers old Tahoe they are trying to sell needed front hubs replaced and it sat for similar time or longer before I got around to doin that and a few other things to it and no issues what so ever. My lawn mower sits for month during the winter etc. with no problem, this is all with un stabilized ethanol blended gas.

If it runs fine run it, if it has water in it drain it and replace the fuel filter.

It is probably fine, but personally, I have had pretty good experiences with Sea Foam. Add a quarter of a can to fresh gas and it will get rid of any moisture and clean the system.

I've been told all of these treatments amount to nothing more than snake oil, but I had an old motorcycle that was only ridden a few times a year. Anytime it would get fussy, I would add a little Sea Foam and it was like a liquid tune up.

Good luck.

Seafoam in a tank you're about to run. Blue (marine) Sta-bil in a tank you're about to store.

Ethanol free gas is still available at a premium price. I’ve had ethanol eat up small engine carb lines on a weed eater, chainsaw, and a 2014 Honda 4 wheeler. I would say the issue is real on small engines.

You can’t leave fuel with ethanol sitting in any thing with a carburetor.

Not just carb stuff, it took out my 825i Gator and my GMC. It kills fuel pumps too.

although if running fine and gets run often, shouldn't have to do anything. If it sits for a while, there "might" be an issue. If it sits for long periods of time (like my power washer is right now), add some type of fuel stabilizer to your gas can when you are filling, so you have stabilized fuel when you dump it in whatever you are using. My pressure washer hasn't been used since before Thanksgiving and last weekend when I pulled it out to use, it would only run puffing starting fluid into the air breather ... until I ran out. Now I have to go thru the carb bang

I use Stabil and/or Sea Foam in my lawn mower gas cans since I usually fill 3x 5 gallon cans that sit until I use the last of it.

Likewise, in my wakeboard boat, at the end of the season (usually Oct.), I will top off the tank and add Stabil for the winter. I have been doing this for probably 15+ years in two different boats and they fire right up come late spring, smooth as silk.

Thanks for all yalls help.

This year I have started using SeaFoam and Star Tron, not at the same time but switching off, between so many fill ups but i think i like the SeaFoam more.

Last weekend of hunting i added a whole bottle of SeaFoam, didnt really mean to had a brand new baby girl and lack of sleep made that mistake but from what i can tell you cant use to much but if you have to much you will get a lot of exhaust coming out. So i do have plenty of SeaFoam going through my UTV during the off season but i still try and run it once a month during the off season.

But here is the issue i have been having that the guy i got to change my oil said was water in the tank. I'll be running the UTV and actually driving it and its not right as i start driving ill actually make it a good distance and then all of a sudden i have my foot all the way down on the gas but it starts acting like its not getting fuel or something and slow down to almost a stop and once did come to a stop and then boom it will take off. Any ideas what that could be? Oh and only seems to happen when its cold like below 40 i would say.

Octane booster will do nothing with water in the fuel.

I don't know how he determined there is water in it, but if its running poorly I would drain the tank.

Seafoam is good stuff and also serves as a fuel stabilizer. Is the UTV stored covered?

That could be something wrong with your drive belt or pulleys.

do you have an inline fuel filter? if not, you should get one. I have used the clear ones on dirt bikes for years, so you can tell if there is trash or water.

it is stored in the garage so it is covered.

I have changed the air filter, fuel filter, oil and oil filter ill have to wait to see if that does anything since it only happens when its cold out.

But this has only happened a handful of times, no consistency to it really, so i think i may be making a mountain out of a mole hill here.

Does the engine bog down when it slows, or is the engine still high rpm, and not moving?

the carb could be dirty or have plug jets also but fuel quality still could be the issue. a carb clean and fresh fuel maybe the fix. spark p,lugs that are weak can cause that issue also

I wanna thank yall for all the help. as you can tell im pretty new when it comes to doing this kind of stuff but im trying to learn. i dont really got many people to ask so instead of just making this post bigger and bigger any of yall have a problem if i ever PM you for help?

Final questions, everyone seems to agree bad gas could be the issue, but i always top the tank off before i go to the deer lease and have been adding Sea Foam through out he season. I'm still going to pump the gas out since i dont see the harm it in but could it really be bad gas with that in mind, and if so is there a better way to be taking care of the gas?

There are aditives specifically for combating the effects of ethanol, I would be looking for that.

I’m not sure what machine you have, but Kawasaki has a mesh filter on the end of the pick up hose of the fuel line that’s inside the tank. Once it gets dirty, all kinds of piss poor running problems begin to occur. Some people report longer cranking times, some have zero throttle response, other will shut off while driving, while most complain of a lack of top speed. It always comes down to that filter being dirty. Even with a new filter, there could be an excessive amount of trash in the tank

Thank you all again, i will look into that fuel additive you have recommended.

Also, it is a Mule 610 XC i will see if it has that filter you speak of.
